Put it this way, if you had your druthers, what would the size be? Also, would you want it more flat with a slight lip on it or more 'bowlish'?

Just search for threaded inserts, then look at the self tapping ones. No, those PE ones aren't what I was referring to.

Any particular size/specs or idears that you can come up with? I might be able to see what I can come up with.

WTF is a 'nove'? Idiots everywhere. Thanks for making me literally LOL.

Been up for about a week now, I do like the name too.

How do you hollow it out then? Move the steady rest to coming in from the front of it. Interesting Would love to see this done Next time I turn something on a lathe I'll take a photo or three for you.

Well, I had the pleasure of driving the '08 yesterday. Was stickered at $56,xxx ... ouch. Other than that, no complaints. Also drove the '05 with too many miles on it. I would have bought it on the spot if it had 30K less miles. They both drove real nice. Seems like a smoth powerplant in both as well. I actually fit in it so right off the bat that is a plus. I'm only 6'4 but even that is a tough squeeze in some vehicles - usually I don't fit shoulder to shoulder, though. Definitely a better ride than the '05 Accord I drove. I like the responsivness of the 335i a touch more. Most comfortable of what I have driven in 2008 would be the IS 350 so far ... a real nice car, but I couldn't get it to respond real well deep in a corner ... very likely just my driving style, though. Only beef with the CTS ... if I recall correctly, 4600 lbs? The 335i is a full 1000lbs less. Glad to hear you've found something you like.

I've got another solid walnut blank at home for a can coozie, I've made a couple before in HS and they seem to turn out fairly well. I do enjoy lathe work, something about it that is just satisfying.

Naaa, make a sphere by taking a solid chunk and turning it into a ball, basically just turning a bowl.

Looks like I can get the Thinkpad I want for 300$ off with the employee pricing through my uncle (he works for IBM). Total of 1,7xx$ But that does include the 4yr you break it we fix it onsite warrenty.

Why do I have this urge to turn a couple large spheres on a lathe, of a size big enough for a woofer enclosure.... I can't remember if the lathe my boss uses to turn bowls can do a 16" throw or a 24"....

Boo. I sense someone wears their disdain on their sleeve.

One of the guys that graduated with Dad in Mech Engg bought a STS-V awhile ago, he loves it. When they went for a test drive the salesman bout lost it... Him: How fast have you gotten this thing up to? Salesman: About 85 maybe 90... Him: Hmmm, lets see about that I understand he shut it down at around 130 or so, salesman was already edgy when he pulls over to let the wife drive. Wife: Turns to her husband, "Honey, how did you drive a stick again??" *She knew perfectly well how to drive, just jerking his chain* I understand the salesman came unglued at that comment.

Best trucks ever don't care what anyone says The paint sucks, the door hinge design sucks and sags, and the steering column comes loose, but other than that they are good. They run forever.

Anywho, out to play some pool.

Then again when you drive an early 90's 350 with a heavy foot....
