Sounds like summer is here. I can't wait for the lake to warm up. Nearing 60 degrees, but we need a bit warmer air temps before flocks of women in bikini's start getting in. Then we have an excuse to start drinking before noon Whoa. You are suppose to have an excuse?!

sooooo i'm guessing geometry wasn't your favorite class. rofl Nope. not to geometry yet, will you go ahead an explain what i did wrong for you to realize i'm not the sharpest tool in the geometry shed. You are 17, if you can't think outside of the classroom and realize how to figure volume for a small thing like this you are in for a serious awakening when you reach life outside of high school. Figuring something like this is a very basic application of math that should be learned way before you have reached the age of 17 and is useful in lots of situations. If you don't know how to do this, it shows the failure of our school systems. Volume is the amount of space an object occupies. That involves all three dimensions, Length x Width x Height. Take the three numbers, multiply them, and you have the volume in whatever units you used (have to keep units consistent, as in all inches, or all feet (num. of inches)/12 for decimial equivalent of feet). Take that number, subtract from box volume and there you go.

There is only going to be about 500lbs on the shelf, but the professor originally wanted 4"x3" tubing but talked him down to 3x3, I wanted 2x2. This is going above where people are going to be walking/working so we wanted to make damn sure it won't come down.

    Welcome to the IHoP

Here are a couple of pictures of a shelf that I welded up the other day at work, this damn thing is seriously stout, 3"x3" 3/16 wall tubing, 1/2" expansion anchors into the wall, then it is getting tied back to the wall with 5/16 grade 60 chain in two spots. This thing will pull the wall down if it comes off. We got it bolted up (no chain) though yesterday at work, one of the guys I work with was bouncing on the edge (2' out from the wall) and it didn't budge. We overbuilt the utter crap out of it...

Speaking of side jobs. In June I'm picking up a small duplicator machine from my boss that I'm going to use to make some pistol grips.
