Mounting amp to back of seat
ralstonballa2413 replied to Hell-Razor's topic in SPL & SQ / Fabrication
have you tried to drill a small pilot hole first and then get up to whatever size you need it to be? -
His port length is actually 11.75 + 9 so its actually 20.75 inches which still seems a little short but after your sub displacement it will be closer to the 29 almost 30hz range if you go by the RE calculator.

hifonics 1600 2,000
ralstonballa2413 replied to vial's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
ok so what would you sudgest i get ? You will have to look into amps that can do roughly 1500 rms @ 2 ohm. The only brand I know off the top of my head that rates @ 2 ohm loads is Kicker but you can look into other brands that have it rated @ 1 ohm loads and just see what they are rated @ 2 ohm. I just think that you are looking for much more of an incease in how loud your subs will be then what the Hifonics will give you. for the 2,000 watt Brutus hifonics Type: Mono Block 1-Ohm RMS Power 1x1600 2-Ohm RMS Power 1x1100 im kinda confused. This amp is rated for 2,000 watts but its not ratted for 2,000 watts even at 1 ohm ? Hifonics overrates their products but im shocked that it is that low. A lot of companies put the max watts in the amps name so people think it can do more so that could maybe be the thing that hifonics was doing or it could be the rms with 16 volts instead of 14.4 possibly. -
hifonics 1600 2,000
ralstonballa2413 replied to vial's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I read your first post completely wrong but now that I saw you were running a kicker amp I realize that you have it wired to a 2 ohm load. The Hifonics are rated at 1 ohm so the one that you are currently looking at is only 1100 rms at 2 ohm and im guessing its a little closer to 1000 rms. That kicker is probably doing closer to 800 rms so I dont know if thats really the amp that you want either. I have owned a kicker cvx and I believe they would sound a lot better with closer to 1500 rms for the pair and I think you will be much more happy with it too. You will actually hear a big difference which I dont think you will with that Hifonics Brutus 2010. Im not saying you can't run it with that amp but I'm pretty sure you are looking to give it more power than what you would be with that amp. I just dont think that it will give you the results you are really wanting. -
hifonics 1600 2,000

Hifonics is ok. I use had a few problems with mine stopping working after a few months. I'd look into Audioque 2200 over the hifonics 2000 watt. Its even cheaper than hifonics if im not mistaken and I think its more reliable than Hifonics -

The hifonics 2000 watt one would be what you should go with dont go down to the 1600 I do believe you will regret it. I had the hifonics 2000 watt powering 4 kicker cvrs and it did a good job. I got rid of the amp because i had quite a few problems with it but now im running a sundown 1500 and it sounds just as loud and I havent had a single problem with it yet. If youre on a tight budget then the hifonics will do fine but i know you can pick up a refurbished sundown 1500 for just a little more than the price of a new hifonics 2000 watt amp which will be a much more reliable amp. -

For this being your first high powered setup I would stay with only the 2000d as your max for the amp and that is a perfect fit for the BTL for daily needs. For the kenetik battery the HC2600 should be just fine. There is one more higher I believe its the HC3800. On the kenetic website they can calculate what battery they would recomend, but for the most part if you run the HC2600 it should support a system up to 2600 watts. Kicker wiring is just fine to use but I know it carries a large price tag. If you look into Knukonceptz wiring, preferably the flex (more expensive), it is still cheaper than Kicker and is great wire, but if youre set on Kicker than go with that. As for the size of wiring 1/0 should be perfect for doing the big 3, the wiring to the second battery, and the wiring to your amp. Dont waste your time or money with anything less than 1/0 especially since you are looking at possibly upgrading in the future. If you have someone else install your setup you will want to make sure you have a lot of money to cover that. I wouldn't suggest doing anything that you don't think you can do, especially because you are working with the vehicles electrical system, but many of these things can be easy to do with a lot of research and asking people who have similar cars or who have done this a lot for some tips or tricks they know. I think youll like the box being tuned to around 32hz. Gives a lot of sound out and still sounds pretty good doing it if the box is made correctly. I hope youve learned a little about what you want now and can start finding out how much you need to save up to start this project. -

I have owned that hifonics amp your looking at and it is a very good budget amp but I had a few problems with it in the few months I owned it. I switched to sundown and have had no problems with the products yet. If you are looking into sundown amps and have a tight budget you can also look into db-r. They sell refurbished sundown amps for pretty good prices and they work great. I have the 100.4 and the 1500 and got both from there. I noticed you didnt say anything about your wiring. Whatever you go for with for your electrical you will want to make sure to do the big 3. I doubt youll be able to run even a single 18" btl on just a stock battery so I would advise doing all your electrical upgrades now especially if you are looking into getting another one in the future. -
hifonics BXi 2610d or BXI 2010d
ralstonballa2413 replied to SynCity's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I just sold a bxi 2010d and it was a good amp the pushed quite a bit of power but after I had it for about 6 months it stopped working then I got a new one through the warranty but when I recieved the new one it wasn't producing as much power as the first one I had. Soon after this I sold it and just got a Sundown SAZ 1500 and I absolutely love it. Easily does as much power as the Hifonics and seems to have less strain on my electrical system. I got mine refurbished from db-r and I have had other refurbished amps that were terrible but this one looks brand new and works absolutely perfect. I would advise getting one from db-r if you are working with a budget. -
I'm looking at buying 2 15" Q's with the bp option and just using it for daily driving no competitions. I wasn't sure if it is worth paying more money for the SAZ-3000D or if the AQ2200D is just as good of a fit for my application. I have been through a lot of bad amps and want to go with a good quality and very reliable amp that I won't be afraid it will break after a year of use. I don't know if anyone has or heard a setup like this with either amp but any input would be greatly appreciated.

I had my seats down at all timesand the subs were firing away from the back seats. I just need to figure out why its happening so I don't have anymore problems. If it is the amp then I am open to suggestions of good amps to look into. I was told to look at Audio Que and Sundown has always had a good reputation but I wasn't ever willing to pay that price but if thats what I need to do then I will do it.

I had it mounted on my back seats. I had 4 12" kicker cvrs and it rocked my trunk pretty good but the amp had a piece moving around in it when I took it out of the package and the first amp just stopped working without a protection light or anything coming on. I don't think location is my problem and my electrical system should've had no problems running that amp. I am ready to get what I pay for and if that means I have to spend twice as much and get a sundown 2000d then i will but if the aq2200d is just as good then I would rather get that but then I'm getting back to getting something cheap. I am just really curious on how good of amps these really are.

I am looking for sq thats why im going with the Q. I have upgraded my electrical system with all knukonceptz flex 1/0 wire and put in a 200 amp h/o alternator and a yellow top optima but when i had the new hifonics bxi 2010d amp installed for about 5 months it broke so I had to warranty it out and the new one they sent me had a piece moving around inside and it still worked but I've had the new one for a couple months now and I'm just afraid that its going to break again. I am going to put the Q's in a sealed box so the AQ2200D should be a pretty good fit for them right? I was more worried about the fact of the AQ2200D being a good amp that I shouldn't have any problems with. I've heard a lot of good things about sundown and thats why I was looking into that.

I need help choosing the setup I want to have in my grand am. My current setup is wired with 1/0 knukonceptz wiring with a 200 amp high output alternator, 4 12" kicker cvrs in sealed 1.2 cubic feet box each, with a hifonics brutus 2010 amp. I have focal speakers powered by a pioneer prs-d4100f 4 channel amp with a pioneer deh-p980bt reciever. I want to go with a higher sq setup that can hit lows because the cvrs just cant get that low. I have about 5 cubic feet to work with in my trunk and I wasnt sure if 1 18" Q or 2 15" Q or even just 1 15" Q would be best. I dont even listen to my current setup at full levels beacuse the subs get too loud for my everday driving needs. I would probably stay with a sealed setup for sq reasons. Depending on which setup I should use I would also like to know what kind of amp I should buy to power it. Ive been looking at rockford fosgate amps but if there is a better brand I should look into those suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

choosing between 2 15" Q's or 1 18" Q
ralstonballa2413 replied to ralstonballa2413's topic in Fi Products
If I get the bp option on the 2 15" Q would that amp still be able to power those correctly or should I get a larger amp?
