Any good HU these days?
ralstonballa2413 replied to TheGreatMonkey's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
pioneer prs 880 or 800 both sweet units with ALL of those options listed below Good luck finding one. Many people are trying to pick these up now since they were such a reasonable price and the price of the new pioneer comparable unit is nearly 3 times the price. That is a great option but I don't think he needs nearly that many features. If you can find a 800 or 880 I would be glad to switch you for my 980bt and even kick in some money on my end. The 800/880's can be found if needed. I have one of each, and know where at least one more 800 is. Just make a "WTB" thread in the classifieds section. I know they can be found with a little effort. I believe I remember you saying you were hoping to buy that 800 if I remember correctly. I guess I don't care too much to get one yet even though it would make life a whole lot easier. I was more saying that this guy didn't need a unit quite that great and he probably wouldn't even use half the features it has which would make me sad to see. Almost all of his needs would be met by the average unit. Even the 980 may be more than he would ever use which just seems like he won't need a high class unit like the 880/800 although it is nice to have. -
Help with wiring & amp kits
ralstonballa2413 replied to snowy8171's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Look into knukonceptz or welding supply for wire. Knukonceptz sells RCAs and you can look at monoprice for those. No need to buy top dollar wire as you won't hear a difference. Just get real OFC and not Tinned or other cheap alternatives like Knukonceptz offers. Edit: Forgot to say to look into 1/0 for the power and ground wire if you can for the SAZ-1000 and 4 gauge for the SAX-125.2. Speaker wire is not a huge deal for size as anything from 12-18 should do fine. -

You can do it but it won't be a big difference between your 12 gauge wire you are already using. -

Turn the lpf as high as it can go then use the one on your amp. Is this for your sub? Most pioneer units can't have the lpf turned off for sub out and you just turn it up to 200hz or something like that and then use the one your amp has. -

At least you are able to get some advise here. Let us know what you find out and hopefully you can get everything back and running like you want it to be. -

Yes.. The pole plug is behind there so removing that will do nothing for the sub -

Turn the one on your amp as high as it goes so everything below that is passing through and turn the one on your headunit to whichever frequency you want it at. I think you can adjust the slope too so mess around with those until you get the idea of where you want it and where it sounds good to you. -

Low pass is to cut the higher notes out so for you sub and that would be the frequency knob on the amp. you just have the high pass and low pass switched around in your mind. According to the pioneer site you have a low pass filter on the cd player and it should be accessible through the sub button on the headunit. Check your ipod seetings and the eq on that because if you have bass reducer on then you may be hearing a large decrease in sub output. Just turn your ipod eq to off. -

I thought that too so I looked up the model and the new one is rated at 1000 watts at both 1 and 2 ohm and 700 watts at 4ohm. Must be a new thing Rockford is doing to get more competition in the 2 ohm market for mono amps. -
Very much so. I believe they say the Havoc has a little better low end.

If I was so far away I would be happy to let you hear mine. Are you using an ipod on this? If so are you using the aux port or do you have the ipod adapter? May want to check your lpf. Maybe turn your lpf on your amp all the way up and you the one on you headunit so you know it is set right. Turn the eq settings back to zero and see what that sounds like. im not sure what frequencies it canges with low, mid, and high. -
What are you looking for in this setup? Are you looking for the louder between the two? What is your reasoning for choosing between these two options?

Well that cd player has 2.2 volt preouts so your gain will have to be turned up a little bit more than the average unit now as most aren't that low so your gain may need to be turned up a bit. I thought you said you only have 2 outputs. This model has 3. Are you sure you have it plugged into the right output? I have done stupid things like that by accident before. You say hpf is off is your lpf off also? I see it has a direct sub button. When you hit that what are all your options and what are they set at? -

Your gain knob is there to match the voltage sent out from the headunit. You may need your amp to be 5/6 of the way up while someone else only needs it 1/4th of the way up. Turn your loudness off as that is just like a bass boost just set on your headunit instead of the amp. The point of doing what shizzzon said was to see if it was your amp settings and you saying now that it gets louder when you took his advise would show that you more than likely have your settings wrong. You may need to turn your gain up or adjust some of the settings on your cd player. What model cd player do you have? Most of those can have the sub adjusted from about +6 to -25. Check to see where that is at as it should be about 0. Knowing what all the setting you have on your cd player can help us narrow down if maybe something is wrong on that. -

You have been given many different ideas to try and all you ever come back saying is that everything seems to be set right and that you know it should be louder. Please take the advise people are giving and then come back and tell us what happens when you try them. People will be able to help you troubleshoot things but without a little help on your end the problem will never be fixed. -

Check the sub settings on your headunit and check the settings on your amp. The headunit usually has a feature to turn your subs up or down and they may be turned down. Make sure you are sending the correct frequency range to it I'm sure you will be looking from a subsonic filter set to 30hz up to anywhere from 60-100hz. The gain knob needs to be adjusted to the headunit.. it may need to be turned up to 3/4 of the way depending on the signal coming from the headunit. If you have a dmm then I would check to make sure you are getting the correct ohm load to the amp. you could also check the voltage you are getting out of the amp to see if it is from the sub or the amp. Dang.. I was definitely late. Shizzzon has good advice just make sure you have it turned down before doing this. -

You could always look into getting a used or refurbished quality amp too. I'm sure there are many people that are selling decent amps if you look around. db-r is selling a SAZ-1000 for 260 right now and a SAE-1200 v.1 for 210 so if you scope around a little you can find a much better and more reliable product for not a huge difference in price. Not trying to push you towards sundown but that is just a site I know you can look for well refurbished amps at and sundown is what they carry. Search around and I'm sure you will find a great deal on a much better amp than what you will get from buying a Hifonics new. -

I would take a quality amp with less power over a hifonics amp with more power any day. What size amp are you looking for? -
For your velcro question. Both sides means that both the hook and loop side have adhesive on them. On the one side velcro it means that either the hook or loop (don't know which one) has the adhesive on it and you use your own adhesive for the other one. For the second part about the order they go on when I talked to Don he said it goes: bare metal -> CLD -> MLV -> CCF -> door panel. I believe the reason was because the CCF will form around the door panel to hold it in place to prevent rattling while the MLV can not form around it.

Does that answer your question? The gap is tight causing it to rub when music is played.

saz1500d v.1 v.s dd m1a?
ralstonballa2413 replied to aimone's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
He never said it wasn't stable that low. Re-read the comment you highlighted. All he said was that the Sundown was more stable at .5 ohm than the DD was. Which was determined by whatever test he performed on it which I am not saying was right or wrong. -
Can it be done? Yes. Should it be done? Probably not. Can you do it? That we don't know. For daily you shouldn't run your amp that low unless you really know what you are doing and know you have the electrical support for it. Get a second and strap them if you are already stuck on that load.

Amp is on, but subwoofer is not working?
ralstonballa2413 replied to Scheibler's topic in General Audio
You can check the coils on the sub with your dmm. Turn it to measure ohm and put the leads in the correct terminal and you should receive a reading around somewhere in the mid to upper 3.x range for each coil. You can test the voltage coming out of the amp with your dmm too. Just make sure you are playing something so it will actually be able to put out power. -

Save up another $100-200 to get a really good dependable alternator.. you don't want to have to regret cutting corners on the alternator.
