maybe it was 1.4-1.5.. i dont remember now LOL.. but they were damn near identical on each side.
-
we put the meter on each coil. 1.5-1.6 each... plugged it in free air and heard no scraping or rubbing sounds at all. Any other tests we can try?.. if there is something wrong i would like to get it back to the guy we got it from. plans are for it to just sit around till an amp is purchased and a box is built.
-
Ok understood. thanks
-
there may have been a more appropriate woofer.. but he got the guy down to 150 for a 12" Q in what appears to be perfect condition. cant pass that up, dont think he will be upset with his purchase.
-
Let me make sure i understand this.. If i order a sub today for example.. it will be done and shipped out on march 2nd? or it wont even be built until the 2nd? Im ordering the damn thing either way lol, just want to understand. and free cooling is for sure a good thing
-
Yea kickers are ok I guess, just not for me. We bought the q last night. Thing is healthy for sure. Probably going to power it with a mb quart discuss 1000 or a hifonics about the same wattage. He doesn't want to upgrade his electrical. Even though I think he is gonna need a 2nd smaller battery in the back. Thinking were gonna put it in a 3 cu ft box tuned to about 35hz and see what it can do. As far as what he liked about the w7 is how it hit real hard... Not all of us know everything about what were hearing as far as all the different frequencies. Just know what we like. Sorry I just can't be more detailed. But speaker is In hand thanks guys

ok, sounds good. is $200 a fair used price, i went to fi's website to see brand new price and it appears they are making changes for 2010 and its not selling them currently, so i couldnt check the price. Ive heard the Q has some nice bass to it. friend of mine isnt a pro by any means. he's not gonna go all out with the rest of his system. Just wants something that sounds good and he can fit in his trunk, thinkin this is the best choice for him. keep the opinions commin, me and him are gonna go take a look at the sub right now. in the picture that sub for a 12" looks real healthy.
-
when he described what he wanted to me.. he said it like this.. "i want something that will hit hard and travel also".. so thats what were goin for.. I have no doubt he will be more happy with 1 12" Q over 2 12" kicker cvr's LOL.. just want to be able to give him some facts to ease his mind in this before sending him out in the expensive world of car audio

Ive been buying alot of stuff lately for my upcoming build. Well certain things are popping out at me that Im going to need to purchase... First thing is an equalizer. what is a good EQ at a affordable price? Would love zapco, but its not in my budget right now. Also I had a PPI EQ a while back and it only had 2 inputs (1 main and 1 aux) which were switchable. my deck has 3 sets of RCA's in the back (Front, rear, sub) .. how is this done? Do i only use 1 set going into the EQ and EQ out to my sub and high's amp's? Which set of RCA's off the back of the deck do I use? Front, rear or Sub? Sorry for all the dumb questions, just stuff thats running thru my head i need to get answers for before going too much farther. Thanks in advance.

damn, i was just about to put in an order.. hmm lol. looks like its gonna be longer than i thought.

Appreciate it. Mb quart might do ok for my highs. Kinda exhausted my budget on the alternator all 0 gauge wires sundown 1500 amp kinetik hc2000 and the big one...the 18 btl , not to mention the box I'm going to have built. Damn this is an expensive habbit but I love it lol. And let me go ahead and mention this one more time. My hu has an excellent eq. No 100 dollar kenwood can come close to compare. Think that's just gonna be it for now. Gonna get a good feel for the system and go from there, you guys talked me out of the eq for now. Again appreciate all the different advice. It's why I come here. Get a bunch of opinions to see all sides of things thanks everyone

i have much to learn lol. thanks guys.

I understand your point Impious, at this point i have no clue what my system is gonna sound like, its sittin in boxes in my room. Im just trying to think ahead here as far as what I need for this system. I like EQ's.. all that ive had in the past have added that extra "uhmph" to my systems, this thread tells me I may have not been using them as there intended. but if it sounds better to me then it's doing its job just fine. If something doesnt sound just right, i would like to be able to tweak a dial and get it where it sounds good to me. IF i can find a decent EQ in my price range then im going to need to plan for it as far as running wire's and RCA's. as i mentioned i dont want to get this system in and end up tearing into it again in a month for something I could have taken care of from the start. Ive looked into audio control's.. looks like nice stuff but pricey. the 1/3 octave might be a little overkill for me as im not a pro on this stuff.. i wont know what the hell im doin turning all those dials LOL.. (would be fun for a while though). Want something i can mount into the dash and gives me flexibility to adjust my high's or bass or anything in between if need be. the deck i have is awesome.. just takes some time to adjust everything. alot more time than just reaching over and turning one of the dial's. I appreciate your guy's opinions, but I dont see an answer for this question coming any time soon. Appears i need to learn some more stuff or just go spend the cash and get something that covers all the angles. Thanks again.

As far as that guy tryin to sell me something lol that's not gonna happen. No Offense but I don't buy things from people in forums. Local craigslist yes. Appreciate you guys lookin out. Makes this site even better

Thanks everyone. The premier I have is a damn good deck, don't have model number on hand but it's got all you could want in a deck. Built in eq so many settings. Damn thing was 550 new a few years back. Color screen. So many entertainment options. I just want more is all. Like to be able to adjust things without spending 10 mins going thru all the options in the deck. Just lookin for a decent eq at a decent price is all

Sorry for posting in the wrong section, have the fi section bookmarked. Now for my problem. I dont want an EQ to "want" one... I want it for getting the system to sound the way i want it. more control basically. Multiple EQ's isnt an option. I have 2 head unit's i can use. One premier that has the 3 rca's and a cheaper alpine that only has 2 (front and sub) . Ideally i want the EQ to control the entire system. As far as the frequency anomalies part lol.. thinking you lost me there. I like different types of music. Some rock, rap.. I want the system to sound good, but I want to be able to adjust it if need be. Im goin with a 18" BTL so im pretty much goin for something that slams real hard and hits those deep lows. Reason im askin all this is because here in the very near future im gonna tear this tahoe of mine down and i want to get everything ran so I dont do this again in a month. Part of that would be deciding on an eq and how i need to run it and the extra rca cables i may need. The amp im looking for also fits into this category. more wire's to run. I know maxxsonics from the youtube video's nothing more.. as far as them taking over MB ill take your word on it, I know how things get in situations like that. Any other recommendations?

Also let me squeeze this in here. Im looking for an affordable high's amp. Looking into MB Quart discuss amp's.. I was told here that MB Quart was a decent budget amp.. but that was for a sub amp which I got my hands on the sundown 1500 .. but for my high's.. is the MB any good? price sure is lol. PPI amp i listed in my signature is no longer with us so that's not an option anymore.. i liked that amp too.

Got the amp in hand Sundown 1500 for $270 works like a charm. more to come
-
crap... one more question LOL.. since i dont have the speaker in front of me, what aprox. size do i want to order these in?
-
Ok.. ive seen this in these forums before.. just never fully understood. can one of you pro's explain to me the method used to securely and safely mount these beast's into their box? Maybe even a direct link to a picture of what i need. I also want something that will take a thief along time to unscrew if the little bastards go for my system. Just go ahead and ignore this thread once we get a good answer posted, let it fall to the bottom,. Appreciate your help.
-
Sweet, thank you guys, now i know
-
ok, t nuts and bolts.. now what in the hell are those? lol.. im gonna do some googling.. anyone got a link go ahead and throw it up for me, appreciate it.
-
alright, i appreciate all your info besides the guy tryin to sell me something else and saying i will sacrifice quality for money cause i think he's a tard. I think the sundown 1500 is what its gonna be, i will make sure to test it before paying. It has a scratch on the front of it from what the guy told me his seat against it. MB Quartz was another i was thinking of before posting this, always thought it was a good brand but not 100% sure. Here is a pic of the sundown for anyone who cars.. looks cosmetic but a picture is nothing to really go by when buying an amp, ill have to hear it work before giving him the money of course.

Ok, i tried searching around and couldnt find a post like this that helped me too well.. let me start by giving you guys the info you may want to know. Im doing this system from the ground up. Got my 1/0 knukonceptz wire in, got the 220 amp alt about to arrive soon. Still kind of bothered by the amp i will be running, there is a SAZ1500D very close to me used for about $270 .. hard to beat that i guess :-/ And finally the sub.. For the past month ive been trying to figure this out i have pretty much figured on a 15" BTL. well like most of us i did a test run on fi's checkout system LOL.. did all but press the button and i realized there isnt a huge price difference in the 18" vs 15". This is going in a 1997 Chev. Tahoe so room isnt really an issue. Its obviously a bigger woofer but im just kind of confused now. Things running through my mind would be what if i ever take this system out? Dont know if the 18 will fit in much more than another SUV where the 15" i may have better chances...ive never heard a BTL in person.. i know im convinced just from forums like these and youtube im going to be very happy with my purchase.. has anyone used both the 15 and 18? is there a big difference between the 2? I think what im trying to do here is get your guy's opinions on my situation.. almost need someone to talk me into it LOL.. i dont want to piss away $500 on the wrong speaker.. appreciate any idea's you guys can fill my head with.

Haven't heard of planet audio before.. price is for sure in my range.. but would i be better off with the sundown 1500 over the planet audio 3000? ive never used either but im aware that sundown audio means business.? also anyone know what hifonics amps i need to stay away from? keep the post's coming, i appreciate the hell out of it
