Sorry guys, real busy weekend and I can see there was a lot of effort put into this post. So let me get into everything. The pictures cable guy have are actually very similar to my car, although M5 is right, my goals may be a bit different than yours considering SQ isn't really my priority. But just as a reference I am working with that. I wouldn't mind stretching that budget either, especially for horns, wouldn't require quite the power as others to get loud so always a plus, not to mention if they are anything like my dad's klipschs, that would sound awesome (he just got the rf-62s.... lucky). The only problem is that with the full size horns, under the dash is limited by the AC, I need to get a photo of that. I have seen them put in the pillars and on top of the dash, not sure how that sounds though. So maybe the minis? My doors are very well damped now, along with CCF and MLV (reallllly made a difference). Not sure if 8s would fit in the kicks so I am guessing doors are a must, plus I would have to alter my door anyway, so I could put them as far away as possible and a bit more on axis, although I guess many of the frequencies from that won't be as localized. Hope that's enough!

I definately have a good bit of room back there, there is a hole in the framing from the original mount and almost four inches behind that point, I also built out a baffle for my current set up so I could do that again, there is a 2 1/2 inch space between that and the frame so no issue there. So how do you feel about the peerless sls 8, or the L8, or any others like that ans what would you recommend? Also I was thinking maybe a mid and a tweeter combo with a custom passive network, so I could keep it a two way, any opinions on that or should I keep it simple?

Can't wait, I'm going to need two of these

I was thinking door if I went bigger, like an 8, but that is going to take a lot of modification to my door. I was thinking maybe two 7s or 6.5s in the door but don't know how that normally works out. I would be kind of concerned with the loss of detail in the upper freq, thats one of the reasons I was originally thinking a 3 way. I wouldn't mind untilizing a horn though, it would have to be a mini though, there isn't much space below my dash on the passenger side. I was hoping to have good staging as well, don't know how possible that is with this type of setup. Although, I have heard that horns really raise the soundstage, or maybe that they had better imaging, I can't remember which one. Would the full range provide the SPL that I am going for as well?

I think I am giving up on the idea of going active until I become a bit more knowledgeable about the sound I would like and mounting locations that best suit me. So anyway, I am going to purchase a new component set instead. I have a 2004 Tahoe, listen to mostly rock, hip hop, and trance. This is a daily driver and I am going to drop my focus from purely SQ. Instead, I would like to just go loud but at the same time I like quality in my music, low distortion, as well as good imaging and staging. I tend to have others riding with me and since I no longer am going for SQ I was wondering if a rear stage would be acceptable now or if that would still take away from the total sound. The budget will be less than 2,000, and I plan on looking for some lightly used equipment if I need too. I would like to use kicks and or my lower doors for the mounting locations. I looked around for the past few days at different sets (deviated away from PE) and found a couple that I liked. I was thinking about the Focal 165K3Ps and bi amping them with a Zapco REF1000.4, the Dyn Esotec 342 with a ZED Kronos, Morel Elate 6 2Ws also with the Kronos, and the CDT HD 642 Golds, which I guess I would also power with the ZED. The HAT L61-2 PROs looked good but I couldn't find any specs on the passives that fit them. So that's my new plan and just wondering what you guys think of going passive instead of active (think I need to learn a bit more) and whether its a good decision or not. Thanks.

If my goal is more output though how would that help? I saw that those sets had pretty high sensitivities and high power handling. Will the install make a difference in output, I guess from deadening and such?

I am trying to decide between (2) new AudioQue 2200ds or (2) used or refurbished Sundown SAZ-2000ds. I want to spend less than 800 and will be driving 4 D4 Elemental Designs 13Av.2s. I want to link 2 and I am hoping to get around 1100 to 1300 to each sub and they will be in a new box slightly over 8.8 ft.^3 tuned to 29hz. I have proper electrical so that won't be an issue so just some opinions on what your experiences are with the amps and which ones you would buy. Thanks.
-
Sorry for another question (just taking advantage of my day off). I just finished up damping my door panels, the sheet metal, framing, and plastic panels,as well as the rear hatch with eDead 120 and Damplifier Pro. Probably have used about >80 ft^3 so far. I am doing my entire roof and going to do the floor soon too but I am having trouble deciding what to do next. I keep reading very different theories about what to do, whether to use closed cell foams or open cell foams and where to use them. Some of you have recommended websites to buy different products but just need to know how much and what to buy. I have a lot of room in my doors between the interior plastic and sheet metal panels, at least more than I see in other cars. Oh, and this will be in a 2004 Chevy Tahoe.

AQ220d vs. SAZ-2000d
abmoore replied to abmoore's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Oh decisions decisions. I am just going to wait for sundowns, if nothing comes up, AQ it is. Now I just need to stop looking around and getting interested in other amps. What I would do for 2 c2k-9.0s or that arc se4000. -
Looks like my 3200, wish I had taken a picture before I sent it away.

New amps new subs........

What type of music do you listen to? Is that your goal hairtricks? I have heard the RE and the sa-8s, liked them both, but was real suprised by the 8s. -

You'll be using that warranty Yeah I guess I believe you get what you pay for. Maybe I will wait for those sundowns.... if i can wait haha. I am way too compulsive. -
I have been searching for that website, I saw it a while ago and then completely forgot where I found it. I covered about a third of the panels with the dampening mat just to be safe. I will try and contact him with the rest of my questions. Thanks.

AQ220d vs. SAZ-2000d

I guess it is a coin flip then. Anyone have a lot of experience with AQs customer service, they do have a 2 year warranty. -

db-r sells refurbished amps. heres the link to the SAZ-2000D. $382.50 Refurbished SAZ-2000D : dB-r Electronics, Online Store to bad theres none left Do you know if they are ever getting more in stock? And 500 is maybe out of my price range, I might go with the 2200d if that's the lowest I can get them. -

Is there anywhere to get refurbished sundown 2000ds that carry a warranty? I would like something to last a long time and that I will be able to maybe run at a higher impedance later for my SQ set up that I am going to do. I am guessing the sundown would be better for SQ right? (only have heard the saz-3000d that was dropped to .5, sounded great though) -

Alpine PXA-H100 IMPRINT Audio Processor
abmoore replied to alexj01_83's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I'm not very happy with mine right now. I didn't notice any difference with the supposed doubling of the 2v preouts to 4v, it was as if it stayed the same. It also does lack on bass response and I notice some hiss now. It does have time correction and the multiEQ works somewhat better than most loudness settings I have heard. The imprint only works in a completely quiet environment and you need to utilize every position which takes almost an hour (and thats with no interruptions), if you just do the two, you won't be happy. So more flexability than without it, but I am going to buy the H701, which has been highly recommended to me. I can't tell you how it is yet but research that, I think you will find that appealing! -
Sorry, thought you meant 2" tweeter. Where do you suggest for the mounting location then, maybe mid in the door and tweeter in the kick, but still try and keep them close as possible? I do have a good amount of space on the floor I can utitlize and I guess between the a-pillars and the dash. Wouldn't I want to keep them as far away from me as I can and close to the mids or will the seperate crossovers and time correction compensate for that?
-
I am rebuilding my system and am going to start with my front stage. I have a 2004 Chevy Tahoe and listen mostly to rock, rap, and trance. It will be a daily driver and I am focused on SQ for the time being. I will be purchasing a pxa-h701 so I can run a 3 way active front stage and sub if I have the need to. I am also taking into consideration a 2 way front if that will work better. I have decided on kicks for the highs and mids, and the door for the midbass, but they will be crossed low. If I do a two way, I will just do the kicks. I need some recommendations for speakers, but I have been looking at HAT, Morel, Dayton, and Scanspeak. I am especially interested in the HAT L4 so far, because of the extended bandwidth. For amps I am considering the Zapco DC650.6, the ZED Audio Leviathan, Zuki Eleets, and the Sundown 50.4 and 125.2. Just would like to know what some of you think about the decisions I have already made and then some suggestions for what I should do. Thanks.
-
Wait is that a suggestion or a question, because I read up on them and I think that would fit.
-
700 was just my max, anything less would be great. I listen to a lot of the newer rock and really like authoritative midbass and more natural highs, they are way to bright for me now. My ears also seem to be real sensitive around the 3.2-4khz range, don't know if that's normal. This is also the first time I will be using kicks for myself, so I was thinking of maybe just getting some prefabricated ones from q logic and then try to angle them the way I want, so basically as close to on-axis as possible. So what would be some specific drivers you would recommend for this set up. Oh, and I am going to deaden everything I can and I probably will start another thread about the questions I have about that later. Thanks.
-
I think you underestimate the difficulty in properly tuning an active setup It's no cake walk to get right. I would rather have a well executed 2-way front stage than a mediocre 3-way. Bridge 4 channels of the Lev down to two for your mids, since they will likely be 8ohm that'll give you 300w to each mid for great headroom and use the last 2 channels for the tweeters. And you'll still have all the pieces in place so that in the future it'd be a fairly simple switch to go 3-way. An RTA while possibly useful won't be extremely helpful. There are a lot of issues an RTA can't help you with. EDIT: Deja Vu.....haven't we had this conversation before? LOL Haha, we have actually, but it got so off topic, it was locked so I never finished it. I will go with a two way then. I guess do that in the kicks then? How do you like the HAT L1 pro for the tweets, then there were some Daytons although I cannot remember which ones. That kinda throws me off on the mids though, any suggestions?
-
I already have a W505, that controls the h701 from up front, so I will have a lot of equalization options, time alignment, and other goodies with that. I already have deadened all my doors, panels, and am about to do my roof. I also am planning on the firewall and floor soon, and there is also foam throughout the car stopping most of my annoying rattles and things.

Yeah wait. Let me go 700-800, still more than I want to spend, but it always ending up happening anyway.
