You will be perfectly fine with 1000 watts. It can take a bit more but will depend on the enclosure too.

Welcome and enjoy!

Yes, the CSS SDX15 would be a good driver for your application. I'm sure Mach5audio has something to offer as well such as an IXL-18.4

"Most Every" not really, but I would say that the majority of DIY subs are. Most home DIYers want to get every last Hz out of a movie that they can even if its at the expense of some output in the mid bass range. Personally, if I make a ported sub I like to have it roll off a bit so the room gain compensates and it's not peaky on the low stuff but thats just me.

Any reviews on the CSS SD12?
Kyle Richardson replied to stratusrt01's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
I've heard a lot of quick feedback like "great driver", "sounds great" but I dont think I've seen a detailed review written up for it yet. If it fits into your plans and you have 450 watts on tap then I think you'll be very pleased with this driver. -
These drivers dont get a lot of screen time outside of the specialty home audio DIY groups but are definitely worthy of taking a look. These drivers were built with one goal in mind and that was to provide top of the line sound quality at an affordable price. The 12" models run under $130 and the 10" models come in at under $120 Some highlights from the site: The Dayton Reference Series subwoofers take the quality at an affordable price to an entirely new realm. As with the rest of the Reference Series, the main focus of these subwoofers is ultra-low-distortion. Second, third, and intemodulation distortion are kept extremely low by utilizing three short-circuit paths within the motor structure. A durable aramid fiber spider and extensive venting throughout provide quiet and uniform excursion. The black anodized cone, rubber surround, and custom gasket give this driver a unique, high-end look. Choose the high output (HO) version for automotive applications or for equalized high-power home subwoofers. Choose the high fidelity (HF) version for home systems when you are looking for clean, low bass and are not restricted by cabinet size. *Extensively vented motor eliminates compression and allows quiet excursion *Extra-thick black anodized aluminum cone for maximum rigidity (HO) *Lightweight black anodized aluminum cone for rigidity and lower moving mass (HF) *Triple shorting ring motor for ultra-low distortion *4-layer coil for high power handling (HO) *2-layer coil for reduced back EMF (HF) *Highest quality materials throughout for long-lasting performance Warranty: 5 years. This really is a bargain at under $300 delivered to your door. I think as more and more people buy these and get some exposure you'll see more and more happy customers mentioning them in their reviews. Thanks for sharing your thoughts Bombsquad56!

How does it sound in the IB Scott?

I'm sorry to report that the XJ-15's are all sold out but we do have plenty of XJ-12's left in supply.

Devildriver pretty much nailed it but I wanted to add that there will be a 12" version of the SDX as well as a 10" in the future. The 12" will come before the 10 and isnt too far out. The build quality of the SDX as well as the Exodus drivers is top notch too.

Unfortunately, the introductory pricing of $270.00 including shipping has ended but since I have this as the product highlight for August I'll honor the $270.00 shipped price. The new and regular pricing is $290.00 including shipping. Just mention your SSA name on the order form and I'll be sure to charge the introductory pricing.

Yep, there's a good supply of 12's

Okay guys act quickly on this one because I only have ONE of each driver in stock that this clearance price applies to so the first one to call me at 435-730-4967 gets it. Because these prices only apply to one driver I'm not accepting orders online (to avoid confusion) and you MUST call. Just FYI, I'm still carrying RD Audio but need to get rid of these two drivers in stock. They are brand new and come with the factory warranty. I have ONE RD Audio Alpha V1 12d4 that I'm clearing out at $225.00. This is an SQL driver that has been getting very good reviews. I'd recommend 1000-2000 watts for this driver to perform at its best. Details can be found on the RD Audio Alpha page I also have ONE RD Audio Classic 12D4 that I'm clearing out at $100.00. This is an SQ driver that also has the ability to get quite loud at the same time. This driver performs well with 300-500 watts depending upon your enclosure. Details can be found on the RD Audio Classic page

Clearance on RD Alpha and Classic
Kyle Richardson replied to Kyle Richardson's topic in Test 1, 2, 3...
E-mail me your shipping info and I can give you a quote. Canada is a big country. -
I modified the original post to reflect the fact that shipping is now included in the modified prices of $155.00 for the XJ-12 and $160.00 for the XJ-15. There was a bit of confusion over the shipping prices so we decided to include it in the new price. Some will pay less with the new price and others will pay more but its a good average. Also, if you are on the fence about one of these drivers you may want to move quickly. We have been in contact with a distributor who wants to purchase the remaining inventory, possibly as early as late today. Now, I dont know for sure if it will go though but once it does the remaining drivers will be gone.

We're fine for 3. The 15's are selling better than the 12's so we have a more of the 12's left.

I was just logging on to post that. The alpha is still available in anybody is interested. -
I realize UPS is horrible on brokerage charges for international shipping and USPS is quite a bit better but there are quite a few problems with USPS. First, we have had a terrible history with USPS destroying drivers. They are just very hard on them during shipping and then filing a claim is next to impossible and even if it does go through it is months not weeks. UPS is usually quite timely on claims and the process is much easier. Secondly, I've had many packages just disappear with USPS after it crosses the border. Who knows what happens to them but they just disappear and then we go through the long, impossible claims process again. So, even though UPS is more expensive its just a better company to use for international shipping and that is why we use them. By the way, its good to hear you guys are happy with them so far. Please be sure to report back when you have a bit more time on them.

the term"power handling depends on application"
Kyle Richardson replied to king alpha's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
Unfortunately, I dont have any information left from the MkIII's but if I remember correctly they were spec'd at almost exactly what the IV's were. Also, DevilDriver did an excellent job describing the different between electrical and mechanical power handling. Most users out there only know electrical handling and that is why the "power handling depends upon application" was mentioned because you can still kill a driver with many fewer watts than rated in an enclosure that will let it self destruct. -
Care to elaborate? I'm just curious what your thoughts and feelings are.

They probably said that because the drivers require quite large enclosures so they are partially right. There's nothing that really designates a driver as "car" or "home" other than the box size requirements and sometimes the Fs. If you can live with the large box requirements these drivers require then they will work perfectly well in car. It is much easier to use these drivers sealed because of the box requirements but if you want to port a couple 12's then you're looking about 7 cu ft or so. A single 15' will require about that much as well as at a minimum.
