    sub options for Altima coupe

Sounds like you got a plan! I agree there is no need to upgrade the speakers if they aren't broken and make you happy. Can always upgrade as you feel needed or budget permits. I just installed a pioneer 4700bs in my ride and am pretty happy with it so far. IIRC there wasn't much dif between the two. HD radio and few other features. Modeled a pair of Dcon 10"s for ya. They look good in the recommended volume of 1.25 cuft, so 2.5 cu ft gross vol. before port displacement. This is tuned to 32hz with a 10.5" x 4" port. (10.5" height is where you would be married, with a 12" tall box, port firing forward or backward), with a port length of 39.25". Let me know if you still need help designing the enclosure, and we will get you fixed up.

You are on the right path, with choosing the Dcon's. They are VERY budget friendly and efficient. they will blow anything in their price range out of the water, with both clarity and output. I have a ported 15" Dcon and it sounds great playing everything from Odis Redding to Too Short. If you have a good battery, you should be fine without an HO alternator for a daily driver. Cars now a days have pretty high output to begin with, to feed all the electronics. Not to mention I personally wouldnt even worry about one until I am pushing over 2k in power. Even Then, I would install the stereo first and see if an HO is even needed afterwards. That said I just installed 2 15" Icon's in my daily driver, on 2k plus the another 600 watt amp. I have to REALLY push it, to even get the headlights to flicker. I will NOT be adding an HO, but will probably install a second battery in the back. More for reinforcement than anything, as with my listening style, that is more than enough. What are your plans for the rest of the stereo, other than the sub?

Do you plan on building the enclosure yourself or purchasing a prefab? The measurements you gave are 12 x 36 x 36. That's 9 ft.³, so you have plenty of volume. I'm not sure what volume the Dcon 10" needs ported, but 2 of them shouldnt need more than around half that space.

Then it will be time for a build log. Might still install an XS battery or two I have laying around, in the back. Otherwise will be complete with the tweeter pods!

Without modeling, I would suggest getting a longer piece of the 6". General rule is 16 to 20 in.² of port area per square foot. The last ported I built sounds steller with about double that.

I think it looks good, I personally prefer a peak in the low 30's. Check port velocity though. As you will get audible port "chafing" (undesired port noise) if it's to small.

  17. I still suspect something behind the head unit. There's about a dozen different ways They could've hooked it up. Wire nuts, but connectors, twisted and electric taped, push connectors. Either way I would still suspect the Red wire however it is connected behind the head unit. The other scenario I described above is the connector on the hu is forced into something behind the stereo when fully installed. The amp would not have that effect. The fact it happens when you touch the head unit pretty much points to the connection directly behind the head unit. Hopefully not the head unit itself, gulp.

I go through my clothes twice a year, and pack away the ones I don't plan on wearing. Then 6 months later its like going shopping all over again, without the cost. I will add I own as many clothes and shoes as the W. She is a true OCD'er I think, Everything is sorted into categories. Then the clean cloths on the left, longest since worn on the far right. Meh I hoard building materials, so that 2 year rule is out the window there. But 3 out of 4 times when something needs fixed, I have whats needed on hand.

Perhaps talk to some local mechanics and see who they use, and who to avoid.

    Welcome to the IHoP v.2

I come from a long line of pack rats, so I use the 2 year rule. if I haven't touched it in 2 years, it's gone. My dad has a line of semi trailers for storage, plus several large buildings. Funny thing is he will go buy something new, that he already has. Bc he can't find his stash of whatever it is.
  23. Perhaps you could excessively boost the sub with the EQ to an audible clipping level for a short burst, to get a true test of the sound you are looking for. Shift through from 30hz to 80hz, with the boost. You might even find you are only lacking output at a certain frequency, not that the sub is lacking output overall.

Not to stir the pot but intellectual and achievement are very subjective terms. When neanderthals moved into a cave I am sure it was considered very intellectual and a major achievement. Pop-culture would be another great example. Some see it as completely pointless, Yet it has molded the world. I think that would be considered intellectual and an achievement, while others would see it as a waste of energy. Just depends on the vantage point on your path I guess. Then again my number one reason for traveling is usually geological and has dick to do with people.
