Alpine Deck Xover questions
j-roadtatts replied to bshizzle88's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Its for a second vehicle thats on the back burner at the moument is why I was trolling egay. I wish I had the extra money at the current time but I don't. Thanks for the offer. You shouldn't have a had time selling it though. -
I am starting to have a better and better tuned ear and I recognize most novices are going to prefer the distortion. PLUS throw road noise into the equation and I really start to think things are missing in the 80-250 range. I have a few more spots to deaden/barrier and a couple body cavitys I am going to block with foam thats about as good on road noise as my poor honda is going to get short of buying quieter tires. I am starting to understand where I went wrong with the Aura's. the shallow slope down low on the Aura was letting to much lows go throw the mid drivers at high volumes, and the over lap from the 15" BTL was not allowing me to hear the strain. I will take more time setting my slopes before even turning the sub on this time. PLUS I think I had too shallow of a slope on the crossovers thus creating the extra distortion/harmonics and my novice ear keep wanting that sound. BUT now that I am REALLY tuning in my ear and I am REALLY liking the cleaner sound with the 18db slope!!! I am starting to think I like the sterile sound alitte more now that I am stuck with the crappy 10" Sony subs I have in my doors right now. I honestly think I may already be happy with the Q alignment I had with the Arua's IF i had the right xover settings. I came up with a Qtc of .5 in my current door volume of around 2 cu ft. I came up with a Q alignment in the .7 range in a .6 cu ft range SO I am thinking I am going to build a .6 cu ft sealed box and do some testing with the on good Aura. I think this will help me learn ALOT. ALSO on another note, with the sub set to 50 hz with an 18db slope makes me hear a few rattles/buzzes I wasn't hearing before. I guess I'm not done sound proofing after all. Sorry to thread jack your shit Cobra but I though you might find it relevent. And For you Seth if you are wondering about the thread I am refering to, heres a link. http://www.soundsolu...midbass-driver/ One last thing, Can I download the Box build Pro for free off the internet Or do I have to buy it?

Wish I was closer, I would come for sure.

Are you listening to the mids by them selfs? Do you hear the db drop in these frequencys? What difference in sound did you find being mounted in the door and the test box? AS far as my opinion of the aura's, I honestly was pretty happy with the sound they gave the music. I should of took more time fine tuning them before driving them so hard but live and learn. They blended really well crossed from 50 to 400 with a 12 db slope, but I should of had a steeper slope down low for wanging on them. They could of easly played higher. The only way I could pick them out of the sound was to turn them down. They where more on the sterile side which I think is why I kept wanting to lower the slope so I could pick them out, otherwize they where clean sounding and really added the warmth I am after. I may still buy another Aura and give them one more chance. remember I am a novice so take subjectivly. Other than that you see where I am at on my thread. I downloaded test tones today for reference testing. I am really working on what I did wrong to pop the one Aura before I really start looking for replacements.

As a landlord myself I can tell you it is not smart to buy a $200,000 house to rent out. People renting out big houses are not usually there for long. I have a big house like that I rent out and 3 smaller houses in not so nice neighborhoods. The big house was my last house, and rather then selling it we decided to rent it out. We found that it sits vacant and rolls over more then the others. People renting these houses are usually those who have had an issue in their main home, such as a fire or whatnot, that requires them to be out of their house for a few months, or people building houses in that area and wanting their kids to warm to the schools before hand, etc. They are just very temporary renters. The smaller houses rent quickly, as they are cheap, and they are in areas where the average renter can't afford to move real quick, you know first and last months and paying for a moving truck is a struggle. Yeah, maybe it seems cold renting to people who simply can't afford to leave, but it is business. thanks for all the advice. Like I said, I am hoarding money and trying to buy a house. I know this may take several years but so may finding the right one, mostly due to the SUPER infated prices everyone bought at here a few years ago. These people are just sitting in place so not to many available right now other than forclosures. the funny thing is my dad owns a pawn bussiness that also pawns/buys/rents houses and buys cars. I couldn't imagine how many houses he owns just based off the ones I know about. He makes his money off other peoples misfortunes by having money to invest when the opportunity arises. YES he is a loan shark, the one time I tryed to borrow money he wanted 24% intrest from his own son.

I didn't think about it like that. I on the other hand only need 6 hours of sleep a night AND today is only my wednesday.

Please broaden your veiws on the statement in red. Most people prefer distortions in these ranges as the seem louder because of the distortion. The drivers tend to provide more of a presence. Ask many people who have heard a Brahma MKII what they thought about it. Being super linear many people felt it was non-existent in the system, or too laid back not enough impact. Thanks for your anwser brother. I agree an untrained ear will choose distortion over sterileness in the midbass range, I just wanted you subjective opinion.

Alpine Deck Xover questions
j-roadtatts replied to bshizzle88's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
You will want to turn the amp xover off or to full, since the siginal is effectively already narrowed down with the decks xover. As far as the RF amp go's, I would say right around a hundred give or take its condition. The funny thing is I am looking at buying that same amp on ebay right now, thats how I know. -
Wow thats the smallest signed in list I think I have ever scene on the SSA. Only 34 members signed in.

Help choosing a 10 inch midbass driver.
j-roadtatts replied to j-roadtatts's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
I measured the door to be around 2-2.5 cu ft. , and I guess the pod to be around .5 cu ft.. second I am willing to cross the midbass as low as 200hz, so this puts the Daber or similar back on the table. I calculated the self induced roll off of the Peerless at around 300 and the Aura doesn't give a Le value. Third I calculated the Qtc of the three drivers that are mentioned in this log to make sure I am understanding this right. On the Aura I came up with a Qtc of .45 in 2.5 cu ft. Vb and a Qtc of .7 in a .6 cu ft. Vb. On the Daber I came up with a Qtc of .4 in 2.5 cu ft. Vb and a Qtc of .7 in a .5 cu ft. Vb. The Peerless I came up with a Qtc of .61 in a 2.5 cu ft. Vb and a Qtc of .7 in a 1.75 cu ft. Vb. So IF i understand this than I think the Peerless is going to do best with the enclosure alignment I have now? BUT IF i make a sealed pod in the .5 cu ft to .6 cu ft range than the Aura or Daber are going to shine? Am I correct? -
Encore, Encore!!! I love the LEGOs in there too!!

SWEET!!! Looks like you ALMOST got that box finished!!!

Sorry to take so long to get back, but I've been SUPER BUSY. I HAlf agree with a$$hole in that the snappy sound is up higher, BUT i disagree with the punchy. I know these are subjective words, but to me I would describe 63 as kicky, 80 as punchy, and 80 to 200-250 as the warm, thick part of the music. I agree with a$$hole in that the midbass and upper frequency ranges need to be in time with each other to create the preception that the cracks and snaps are coming from the same place as the kicks and punches. I disagree with onebadmonte (sorry brother), but I DON"T think midbass is localizable up and down. I will quote Impious on this one: "We localize midbass in the lateral plane only (i.e. left to right). We don't localize it on a vertical plane (high and low), and we don't localize it "front to back". " "Midbass is localized by way of what's known as Interaural Time Difference (ITD). That is, the brain localizes midbass laterally due a difference in the time arrival of the sound wave between the left ear and right ear. ITD dominates our localization ques in the frequency bandwidth where the wavelengths of the soundwave are longer than the distance between our two ears. Generally the more ITD you can generate, the wider the potential imaging." Where did you get the volume for your test box? Why ported?

I WISH I could go off stated income. In my trade I make ALMOST as much through tips as I do wages, Due to my clients tipping me based on what I charge an hour and NOT the percent that I take home. IF I want to claim EVERY dime and pay the taxes on the tips I would show ALOT more, but the trade off is having to pay a ton in tax or just save the tip money. I tryed two years ago to just show my monthly bank deposits, BUT that was right when the fit hit the shan. I payed a pretty penny this year in taxes and will do the same in the spring, then I should be in the right borrowing bracket for where I am trying to buy. I HOPE.

Your situation makes it tough. Wife work? Yes, she works for my mother at her restaraunt.

My goal at the present moument is to HOPEFULLY buy a house next spring. I tryed REALLY, REALLY hard the last two years but it just didn't happen. I am a first time buyer and work for myself SO its been a learning experience.

Ok, thanks for the warning. Can't wait to see whatcha got new!! -
Fuck that. What happens when you die the day you retire? What happens if you travel too much and get to be 65 with no retirement fund? Hope the Democrats are still in office, duh. On a more serious note, I believe in investing in my future. I work for myself and have a savings account. Got any suggestions for investment? Cause buying a house is starting to seem like a joke.
