What belt are you running with your HO alt?
j-roadtatts replied to mrbojang's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Gates Green stripe. As long as the belt you have isn't slipping you should be good until the next belt change. -
Cool vid. Reminds me of using a tuning fork to make sand designs on a metal table top. I LOVE good vibrations.

How easy is it to retrofit a carb on that beast? Do you have to get the ECU reprogrammed? XCONS FTW.

DAAAMMN, that rear deck looks SWEEET. You are definetly getting some serious excursion in the vid, how is clearence between the front two subs and rear seat? I believe that the foam you are refering to is the same stuff,(uruthane) the caulk gun is just for easier application into car box sections. They sell different densitys of the product also, for different ridgedness.

The tomatos peeled easy after the hot/cold treatment. This is my first year growing the garden, I definely got enough to throw.lol. I am really enjoying the organic golden cherrys, they are so sweet. Time to try the soup, all vegables, no meat. I will see how my spice mix turned out.

I haven't used it yet but will soon. The package claims that is ridged, sandable, paintable and expands 10x. The package says its for sealing off internal body cavitys to reduce noise and the make them more structurly solid. recommened for car box sections such as a-pillars. Won't deform the panel. The name on the package is IES INTER-FOAM 10. Sorry to clog the build but thought you might be interested.

I think people tune low and then can't "hear" enough output so they turn it around to make the FR peak higher/narrower or to acheive cabin gain. The problem now is that FR isn't as predictable, due to unknown trunk volume. Whenever you have a 3db shift in signal it will be audible and prehaps memorable. My opinion is ppl that like the rear facing would be happier tuned higher or with a BP alignment, BUT maybe its the cabin gain that the rear facing gives. I am all about knowing the physics of why it happens. I am glad to see Anton contributing, because I know he has done alot of testing on the subject lately. Interesting about the side facing. +1 for trying something different atleast. I assume the physhics behind it are either that the BP effect is making the FR peak at a more audible freqency or the cabin gain is just right. AS Jay-cee knows my BTL is forward facing, sealed from the trunk, tuned 32hz in 5 cu ft and crossed at 50hz. When I want more audible output from my current setup I boost the EQ at 40hz, BUT I am in control of the effect when I want it. (which isn't very often) Ignorance is bliss, SO I guess some of us must be in BLISS. My past setups include sealed, ported, and 4th order BP alignments. I tryed each box forward facing, rear facing, and firing up, but never sideways. I have owed hatchbacks(my favorite, love the loaded horn effect) coupes, seadans, and trucks(love the cabin gain), Never a van or a station wagon.

Time to start my southwestern soup. Has anyone ever peeled their own tomatos? From what I have read, I should drop them in hot/boiling water for 10-20 seconds and then drop into cold water and then they should peel? Anything I missed?

The new Serta is in my bedroom! The mattress measures 17" thick!. Now I think I am ready for bed.

I am guessing horrible sounding because they where not powerfull enough to tune for the true lows, so you settled for the rearfacing for the added output of the BP effect of firing into your trunk. I think with 2000+ watts that this will no longer be a problem. IF you are after the TRUE lows that surrond you and pressurize the cabin without any colorization or audibleness then do forward facing with a low crossover point. (narrow the frequecy band you are giving the sub, via crossover*, to get only the TRUE lows without anything audible) *via crossover oposed to from the BP effect, with the cleaner signal=handle more power.

Was working all weekend so I am a little late to the discussion. I think when most ppl say they 'hear' more output from rearfacing, what they are really hearing is coloration of the sound. True lows should be felt and not heard. when I was running only 5-600 watts I almost perfered the rearfacing too, ALMOST. NOW that I have upped the power I much prefer the super clean lows, and my brain will no longer except anything less. a side note, I have my BTL crossed at 50hz. SOOO much easier to get the true lows with more power and you can get rid of as much coloration as possible. I know you are set on the rear firing, and are just going over the details, but I still wanted to give you my opinion. Have you ever played with a 4th order BP box? thats always what a rearfacing setup sounds like to me, like the sub is in the next room and you are just audibly hearing and feeling what makes it to you. VERY colored in my opinion. I actully like the sound of BP boxes on some genres of music. eg. rap, house, techno, BBM, C&S. So thats why I ask about the BP. Very effecient. (had a BP in my last car)

I just bought some 2 part ridged foam from the local auto paint store. I haven't used it yet but the package claims 10x expansion. The package also says that its made to fill body cavitys. The foam I bought comes in a double caulkgun tube, and I had to buy the crazy double caulkgun too. should make for easy body cavity filling I am thinking.

This is what I used to ride, albeit optioned differently. Looks like a GT. I had a Haro

TGIF, I still hurt from the concert last week.

I am going for faithful sound reprodution, is the biggest reason I stayed with the IB. I did think the very small sealed enclosure boosted the low end alot, as the modeling program and higher Qtc had predicted. I think the biggest thing to remember is you are changing the FR of the driver when you go sealed. SO I suggest you try testing first with the drivers in question and decide if you like the new FR. Or run the driver through a model program, and try to reproduce the same results with the EQ, to see if you like the sound.

Sleepin' in style tomarrow night TOP.

As a matress salesman I thank you. You're spine and joints do too. I think the best money a person can spend is on a quality mattress, pays for its self over and over again. I got the Serta at American Furtiture Warehouse on sale, out the door for 1200. I pick it up tomarrow!!! I scored a new comforter at JCPenneys. They are on sale also. I got a pimp 300 dollar one for 130 bucks!! Even better, everything bought with cash. no CC. I already have a friend that will take my old mattress, SO I just have to drop it off at thier house on the way to the pick up my new one. Two birds with one stone FTW. The 460 drinks the gas. OMG I can't wait, all I did last night was dream of my new bed. COME ON TUESDAY.

You may try building a couple test pods the volume you are suggesting sealing the driver at. This would let you hear how they sound compared to IB, BEFORE doing any work to your door.

Google Spartan Warrior and see what you think? For a character? I was thinking "from the waste up" style to keep a logo shape and not get to long and skinny.
-
These are a few ideas I thought of. A Spartan warrior holding "your" shield, draw in comic book, super hero style. NOT cartoony, but more the evil, realistic comics style. More like the "Heavy Metal" or "Resident Evil" style comics. Things to google: Worlord comic, Heavy metal comic, Resident evil comic. The comic book style works good on t-shirts because it has the colors already broken into shapes. The next Idea is a weapon with the shield on it. This could be as simple as a tank silhouette or as detailed as a handgun with the shield on handle. Things to google: tank silhouette, handgun The third idea is the shield with crossed guns behind it, like "skull n crossbones" style. things to goolge: handgun crossed, handgun shield, skull and crossbones Next idea, You could do the shield on or next to just about any image. an example. google: gun shield. There should be a gun with a Raiders shied next to it. REMEMBER these are all just ideas to help you spawn the idea in your own head. I can rattle off ideas all day, SO lets just keep narrowing it down. I can make just about any idea look badass, but it does no good if its not what YOU want. example: I have covered beautiful, AMAZING tattoos on ppl just because it wasn't what they wanted, but it was what the artist sold them. As you can see I am thinking in the direction of how to use the shield. SO let me know if maybe there is something in another direction you would like to explore?
-
This is good info. I googled and understand what you have now. "Death Dealer holding shield" I assume that the shield must be incorporated in to the design? I will also explain better the services I am trying to provide. If you hadn't figured out I am a Tattoo Artist. I spent countless days picking peoples brains to help them think outside the box to spawn thier own idea's. I have a vast library of images in my brain to work with SO its more about what the customer wants. I work generally in two mediums of art, pencil sketches and flesh. The service I am mainly trying to prove is helping YOU spawn the idea YOU want. I will draw a "Proof of Concept" pencil sketch for you if need be, but thats all it would be is a sketch. I know the design has to please alot of Homey's SO its gotta be palatable. I assume you are more after realisam style of art, but could be wrong. Realisam=photograph. This style of art has the greatest attention span. Other than that I assume you are after masculine, something that says "strength". I will keep brainstorming and you do the same. Every idea you feed me will help me help you.
-
Sounds like you are open to idea's. It will probably be a day or two, but I'll sketch something up in my free time and post for you.

Since you don't know what you want, how about starting with what you DON'T want? That will narrow things down for me.
