    Big 3

Yes. this is the path of least resistance. I recommend from the alternator case to the neg battery terminal as the very shortest path.

    Welcome to the IHoP

I want to cook a beef brisket, but don't own a smoker. I would love to dry cook it but just don't have the right equipment, So I stuck braising in the oven. Obviously this is my first time, so I have a few questions. Will I be good browning the brisket first on the grill? Any better method to brown the meat before cooking? I can set my oven as low as 170F, and own good thermometer. I have read a bunch of different recipes, but want your guys opinions. Thanks in advance.

    Big 3

A fuse on the power wire is not nessecary, but is cheap insurance. I found the easiest way to soilder was to crimp the terminial first then soilder with a torch, don't forget the flux. I would run the engine ground to the battery. Definetly leave the factory wires in place.

I made cheese sauce twice this weekend with Cojito. I used heavy whipping cream and it came out great. THe Cojito is a WIN WIN for teh sauce, was more palatable then the raw cheese. Thanks again guys.

    Battery? Alt?

The wire you refer to is part of the big3. The other two wires are a ground wire from the alternator to the battery and a large ground from the battery to the frame/body of the car.

    1991 Honda CRX Si

Awesome job on the box! I love the look of the angled subs. Maybe you could fill the rear panel that the tail lights are located in with expanding foam. Or bolt a board across the inside where the plastic was, as a brace. Just some ideas.

    Battery? Alt?

For your car I would replace the alt with the biggest one available. I would avoid cheap alts like the ones on ebay, and a few other companys. 180 would be ideal, if you can find one. Quality HO alts are not cheap, but will solve the problem. Unlike a battery which depending on your listening habits could be hurting more than helping.

    Battery? Alt?

Two things that may limit the size of alt you can use, space available and the size of you engine. I suggest starting a thread in the DC Power section and ask whats available for your car. They will give you a good idea of what is possible and not possible based on their research. There are other companys I can recommend contacting, but thats a good place to start.

    Mac N Cheese's build log

The Xcons are sexy subs. The trunk is looking clean and simple, keep the good work.

    Battery? Alt?

Most alternators are easy to get to on the vehicle and install as long as the one you get fits. Does your alt look easy to get to? Do you own the tools to swap alts?

Help me pick my active setup!

You are wasting money if you buy a passive setup and run it active. Why pay for the engineering that went into designing and tuning the passive setup if you are just going to throw it out the window? Theres alot of benifits and good reasons to building an active setup, but just to have a 3way is not one of them.

    what 12s hit low

All subwoofers are made to play "low". The way you set them up is what will predict how well it plays "low". Just because a sub is rated for more power than 900 watts, doesn't mean it won't sound good on 900watts, and may even hit "lower" than the 900 watt rated sub on the same power.

    Battery? Alt?

If the battery you have now is good, why replace it? I would focus on a HO alternator first and use the battery you have. The reason I recommend this is a battery is a storage tank and the alternator is what makes the power. A QUALITY 200 amp alternator will produce all the power you need with ease and the battery will reinforce it. If you put a bigger or multible batterys only, your 80 amp alternator will be staining just to keep the battery charged, the power has to come from somewhere. I have a blazer with a 200 amp alt and a single battery, I can unhook the battery and run the Warn 9000# winch with no load and the voltage stays steady. NOW to the other extreme, my Honda has two XS Power batterys, and my 250 amp alt just broke forcing me to reinstall the factory alt. SO with ONLY the factory alt and TWO XS batterys, I have voltage drop even at moderate volumes. The math alone proves the point, but personal experience confirms the facts. You can buy a cigarette plug voltage meter at walmart if you don't want to install a permanent voltage meter.
