so ive been wrong about asking stuff please help me now with component
socialstealth replied to [email protected]'s topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
Passive means you use the crossovers that come with a component set. Active means you use an amplifier with crossovers inside of it (like a sundown amp has) and you power the components separately. you use a 4 channel amp, tweeters on 2 channels and the midbass driver on the other 2 channels. -
kenwood excelon kdc x790 http://www.crutchfield.com/p_113KDCX790/Kenwood-Excelon-KDC-X790.html?tp=5684&tab=features_and_specs Sorry for jacking this thread Someone was selling RE XXX's for 300$ so I thought I would ask here but I've decided to buy the drivers separate and go active

What exactly are horns and are they better than tweeters? -

heh....I have the old 12'' kicker CVR's, the single coil ones, I have 2 of them..... Do you think I could use them as midbass drivers in my doors I've been trying to sell them but no one wants them because they're the older models. They're in good condition so it would be great to get some use out of them crutchfield says the kicker subs have a frequency response of 25-500 hz, and they say mid bass is 100>500 hz Would it be a good idea to use 12'' subs in my door, or is that retarded? most tweeters I've seen cut off at around 2000 hz, so would I need a mid-high driver for 500-2000 hz? -

Well I'm custom molding my doors so I can fit any size speaker in there. One problem I might have however is the amount of door enclosure space, If I get a 8'' midbass driver, should i sort of make a sealed box for it inside the door? Should I go bigger than 8'' ? any suggestions on which driver for midbass I should get? -

Sorry but whats the holy grail your referring to? Whats generally some good suggestions for positioning and aiming, should I aim them at me? I see some setups where people aim them at the window shield and other places. Seeing as I'm planning on customizing my interior, should I put the tweet on the dash? next to the midbass driver? on the A pillar? -

I'm from south jersey, about 30 minutes away from philly. I'm planning on fiber glassing a custom interior for my car; so I can mount them practically anywhere. Where would the best position be? I really can't decide whether I want to go sealed or ported with my sub... A lot of people say ported will be 'sloppy' with fast bass, while others say it wont be sloppy in a ported box thats built "right" Any input on this matter? -
Can the SAX 50x4 be bridged for 2 channels? what are the specs on it? Is it sort of like the sax 125x2 when bridged?
-
Does this mean I would like SQ? Or am I looking for SPL or """"SQL""""? Or does it mean I just like high volume at low frequencies? so I guess I should get a DC lvl 4? hows the nightshade compare vs DC subs?

In my mind...although I'm a noob... I'm thinking I could get an SAX 50.4 and use it to run tweeters & a pair of dedicated mid highs, because they require less power than the midbass driver, right? And then I'd get a SAX 125x2 for the midbass drivers. If thats all I need to run "active". then count the passive crossovers out! * I've used infinity reference coaxils running off of an eclipse EA4100 (75x4), 2 kicker CVR 12' subs running off of a sundown SAE 1200' * I'd like to spend about $300 used/ebay/craigslist/classifieds for the components (more money set aside for sundown amps to run them) * car = Mazda Protege 2002 Sedan * Never heard any other products, I don't seem to have any good car audio shops near me... * Musical preferences = Rock, screamo, metal, things like senses fail, a day to remember, things with a lot of fast drums/bass guitar. * Its a daily system, I'd like to be able to FEEL the vibrations resonate in my chest, I don't care how loud the bass gets as long as I can FEEL it, after thats acomplished i'd like some amazingly loud/clean midbass and highs * Originally I wanted a low budget system, which explains by kicker CVR's and infinity references. But they have left me wanting more. Are the RE XXX components a good set? someone is selling them for 300$, any ideas on a better pair? For an upgraded sub, I've been thinking of buying a 15'' DC lvl 4 to run off my SAZ 1500 (I already have an SAZ1500). Or a sundown Z15. though I'm open to suggestoins... 400$ budget range for the sub, though less money is great too

He said what were they worth, not what they cost lol. A read through the noob thread guidelines would help. They are in my sig. Please read and adjust the question as you've given us no background to go on other than subjective and if that is the case personally I wouldn't pay $50 for a pair if I couldn't sell them right away. They are of no interest to me....but might be to you. Unless you help us understand your needs though that will be impossible to tell. Really? Personally I'd like to hear some amazing vocals in rock/metal/screamo music from my front stage. And supplement some mid-bass where my lvl 4 DC's might lack. would the RE XXX's work? Or what would you suggest?

Where were you planning on buying them from? And I've heard very good things about Rainbow components...

I'm a bit of a noob with subs, I have a SAZ-1500d, I've been looking at getting a DC soundlab lvl 4 15'', just because people seem to recommend those. I came across the close-out sale for the Sundown Z15 just now and i'm wondering if the z15 will run well on 1500w rms for daily driving? How would a z15 compare to DC subs? And don't be afraid to be blunt will I be able to feel the vibrations with a z15? the only subs I've ever heard are my pair of 12'' cvr kickers in a sealed kicker made box. How would the z15 compare to those? Thanks

how much $$ is a pair of RE XXX comps worth?
-
Alright thanks, I think I'll just port them toward the opening of the trunk towards the rear. I want to feel the vibrations without it pounding on my ears. When I say feel the vibrations, I want a LOT of vibrations resonating inside me. I have 2 12'' cvr kickers right now, running off of a 1200d SAE sundown amp and when I turn the volume up, i can't feel the vibrations as much as I would like, but at the same time I can feel a lot of pressure which I DONT like. What subs do you think I should get? And is it OK to buy used subs? or would I be better off getting them new?
-
I've been looking at the DC lvl 3 12'' subs but I'm not sure what I should get, I'm a complete noob to this stuff. I'm going to power the sub(s) with either a sundown SAZ-1500 or SAE-1200 Going in the trunk of my 02 mazda protege sedan. I like to listen to a lot of metal and rock music. I've heard sealed boxes are better for fast double bass, but I've also heard that a good ported box can handle double bass as well. Others say the bass will blend together in a ported box... what do you guys think? is the dc lvl 3 the best sub for my money?
-
Check out rainbow components. Sort of an up-and-coming company but people say they're great quality
-
I don't necessarily want my ears to hurt, but I defiantly want to feel the bass in my chest. a LOT of bass in my chest! Does that mean I want SQ? Here are the dimensions of my trunk: Would I have enough room for a ported box?
-
Alright thanks! I thought the ports were supposed to be on the opposite side for some reason... Is it better to have the port running into the cabin right? I was thinking of putting a hole in my rear seat to show the port through. Or is that stupid? When the subs are in the trunk, should the port/subwoofers face toward the front of the car, or toward the rear? (trunk = rear, engine = front)
-
I like this idea, if you are set on 2 12's. Did you consider a single 15? I'm open to any suggestions. Remember I have a small sized sedan though. I've never heard a real system before, and the best audio shop near me is radio shack I know sq is sound quality and spl is loudness, but what is the real difference? Yeah sq produces the notes more accurately and the frequencies are flatter. But what does that mean in respects to listening to music? IDK which I'm looking for... I'm not going to be in any competitions or anything like that, I just want to feel the bass resonate inside my chest. To get that, what do I need? Should I have a ported enclosure or vented or sealed or ??? I'd like to be able to at least fit the sub(s) and 2 amps (cabin & sub amps) in the trunk. and at most some storage/air space. Ha I drew these, are things like this possible?
-
I'd like to spend about $300 on the sub(s), is it OK to buy used subs? or is that a 'no-no'. if they "seem" to play well and look like they're in good condition? or would I be better off just buying them new? So you guys think AudioQue hdc3 or the Sdc series, Fi SSDs or IA Lethal injections Are better options than DC subs?
