No, the voltage spikes when playing music. I tested my battery's dc voltage as well, and its putting out a steady 14v with the engine running. Any idea what the problem could be? I've since unplugged the amp...assuming its not safe to use when the speaker terminal voltage spikes up to 50-70 while playing

I have an 02 mazda protege sedan I'm planning on making a custom kick pod out of fiberglass for my front doors. I'm going to put my hertz mlk 165 (6.5'') midbass component drivers into the kick pods. Will be ran off of an eclipse EA4100 amp bridged to 150w x 2 (for now) I like listening to rock music with a lot of bass around 80 hz. My sub is a dc lvl 4, ran off of a sundown sae1200, Right now its in a ported box tuned to 32 hz, but I'm probably going to be building another box sometime (idk what kind) what type of enclosure would be the best encolsure for my midbass drivers? I can make a sphere-shaped enclosure; does shape matter for a sealed box? while we're at it, what type of enclosure would get me the best response for 40-100 hz on my subwoofer? Is it worth while to make a box for tweeters? Or should I just use the chamber things they came with?

Sundown SAE-1200D v.1 specs and current draw??
socialstealth replied to 8adk1d's topic in Sundown Audio
No it doesn't, its a full range pre-out. Will the sundown sae1200v1 filter out ALL frequencies above its range? like, it doesn't just stop its filtering at 500 hz or something, right? I was originally using my AUX port (plugged my ipod in) to play the tones, and I changed it to the USB port. This boosted the signal from the hu a lot! I set the gains by playing a 50hz 0db test tone without the sub plugged into the amp's speaker terminals, I set it to 30v. Then I set the lowpass to start at 70hz and the subsonic filter to start at 35 hz. I turned the car off, then plugged the speaker terminals into the amp. then lowered the volume on the HU and played the test tone (putting my DMM in the extra - and + holes of the amp) and the voltage the amp was putting out was outrageously high! Before I had the headunit turned to 30/40. This time at around 20/40 the amp was putting out 35v, wtf? did I do something wrong to make the voltage so much higher? -
Sundown SAE-1200D v.1 specs and current draw??
socialstealth replied to 8adk1d's topic in Sundown Audio
Will an sae1200v1 clip if it is receiving a clean signal but has its gain set to the max? The reason I ask is, when I set my headunit to 30/40 i have to turn my sae1200's gain to the max just to get 1000w (30v). this was done with test tones w/ the sub plugged in. -
hey, I have a sundown saz1500. gain was set with a dmm @ 32 volts to power my 12'' d2 dc lvl 4, wired at 1 ohm.
So it hasn't been used/abused in competitions
New heat sink model, $330 shipped, open to trades

SAZ's are stable down to .5 ohms, see the testing, he even tested 2 saz's strapped down to .16 ohms, which I believe sent the amp into protect. I wouldn't go under .5 but it is defiantly safe and able to wire it at .5

I'm planning on buying a 15'' DC lvl 4 sub (1000 rms, though underrated) Not sure if I want to have it ported or sealed yet. Its a daily driver, No competitions or anything like that. I have an SAE 1200d and an SAZ1500 Which one do you guys think I should use to power my sub? I don't plan to upgrade from this, and I will never strap on another amp. I have a pretty weak electrical so If one is more efficient than the other please let me know. Is the SAZ worth the extra money for my application? I'm going to be selling the one I decide not to use.

how is MLV applied? does it have a sticky layer? should I use butyl rope? Do I just screw the top end to a panel and let it hang? should I put MLV on my roof or is that pretty pointless?

I'm sorry but I can't seem to find a 50 hz tone
socialstealth replied to socialstealth's topic in General Audio
thanks! I downloaded that add-on for firefox and I'm grabbing the tones off of excursion.com -
I've been searching for the past hour. And I have found many tones, but they're all protected by Quick Time Player and I can't download them! I've tried google, and I've tried searching the forums here, but I get seemingly random results that have nothing to do with the words I entered into the search... Does anyone know where I can find an mp3 of a 50 hz sine wave that I can download for free? (I'm also looking for 30 hz, 70 hz, 100 hz, 150 hz, and 200 hz.) I'm sorry I fail at the internet

thanks you guys, I checked out the realm of excursion but I can't download from their list of tones, and I don't have a laptop to play them on. Can someone make me these as well? 30 hz 70 hz 100 hz 150 hz 200 hz I'm going to use the 50hz to set my gains right now, I want to use the 70hz/100 hz /150hz to set my lowpass filter and 30 hz to set the subsonic filter -
whats wrong with the $50 ones? they seem to detect comps around my area :X ...but it doesn't detect them when their cars are off...

is it possible to put my 12'' dc lvl 4 in a sealed box? (ran @ 1000w off of an SAZ1500) the site doesn't recommend any specifications for a sealed box. Right now I have it in a 32.5 hz ported box (2 cu ft before displacement). #1 what do you think the frequency range for my 32.5 hz ported box should be? #2, what would the frequency range for said sealed box be? I'd like my bass response to be louder in the higher ranges, so I'd like to see if making a sealed box is a possible option? I used to have 2 12'' (older) kicker cvr's in a sealed box, and their response for rock songs were a lot louder than my single DC's.

can a dc lvl 4 be used in a sealed box?
socialstealth replied to socialstealth's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
whoops sorry about that! I drive an 02 mazda protege ES, sedan. No idea what kind of numbers I hit, I don't have a db meter. -
about how many dbs will a single lvl 4 hit off of 1000w rms? (in a ported box tuned to 32.5 hz) just a ball park estimate ??

how much voltage drop is too much?
socialstealth replied to ppiflat10s's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
havent gotten to look under the hood since she hasnt gotten beck from work, but I was under the hood of my 93 accord earlier, and my alt to battery is the longest run (obviously) and it is about half the size of the battery-frame, block-frame wiring. I didnt end up with enough extra to do the big 3 on her car, but I will order myself some wiring after I finish my setup, and then finish up hers. What gauge wire are you using? I have about 5' of red knu flex 4g wire if you'd like to buy it. -
Are you saying the vents should be receiving air from the outside of the car?

1. SocialStealth 2. I qualify to the terms listed in the first post of this thread, and hereby agree to follow through with them as they are written in the first post of this thread. 3. I have a 2002 mazda protege, currently in the process of tearing out the interior and custom molding everything out of fiberglass, going to have LCD screens, CD rom's, either an xbox or ps2, not sure yet. When the job is completed, I'll move on to painting my car, probably going to go for dark blue with some graphics that I've had in mind for a while. As far as audio goes, I'm trying to put together a front stage 3 way system, 8'' midbass driver, 4'' mid range, and tweeters. ported 12'' DC lvl 4 tuned to 32.5 hz in the trunk, everythings powered by sundown 4. If I receive free product from second skin, I will create a custom fiberglass grill for the front of my car that reads 'Second Skin.com'. I'd also show off to all my friends at camden county college The websites I plan to post my build log on are, SSA.com, caraudio.com, d3scene.com, and mazdas247.com 5. I'm going to attempt to make a spherical enclosure for my front midbass drivers.... -
What do you guys think of the design? Its for a DC lvl 4 12'' sub How would I factor in a kerfed port to the design??? If the kerf is secured as an external portion of the port, will it affect tuning or require a change in design anywhere? Specs come to: -2 cubic feet before subs displacement -32.5hz tuning -36.25 sq inches of port area

http://www.ddaudio.com/dd/caraudio/09/DDT.asp http://www.madisound.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=1600 what do you guys think I should cross these tweets and middrivers over at? Are they a good pair for eachother? SEAS Prestige CA22RNX (H1288) 8" Coated Paper Cone's are said to play 30hz-3000hz the ddt tweets say 2000hz-22000hz

so mount them as close as possible to eachother? Not a problem, I can make them right next to eachother in the pods I'll go for the 3 way, seeing as it seems to fit my style. the processing unit I mentioned before, the x6, will it support an active 3 way front stage? I'm not sure what crossover options it has (this way i'd be able to use cheaper amps that don't have crossovers)
