Once again you guys at fi have raised the bar with this lineup. I have been running one of the two subs I got so far, on my Soundstream RUB2500.1, at 8 ohm, for about 500 watts RMS to it. I will be building a new enclosure at 3.5 for the pair, tuned to 30 hertz soon. I first ran it in an optimal (0.707) sealed box, at 1.25 cubes, and let me say, it sounded excellent! I'm not a huge fan of sealed subs, but this had me wondering if I left my 18's wired up on accident! Digs plenty low, and sounds excellent doing it. A lot more output than I was expecting for a single sealed sub... Even on oldies and stuff with really light basslines, sounds clean and clear at any volume. Now, I have converted the box to a ported design and went with external ports, to keep the overall volume of the enclosure the same. Still at 1.25, tuned to 26 hertz, this sub gets even louder, cleaner and harder hitting. Just tons of room filling, window rattling bass. I love it! Once again, whether its classical music or a bass heavy techno song, or the most demanding action movie, the bass stay clean and clear as can be! I would really like to see what it can do with a bit more airspace still, but even in both sealed and a super small and low tuned enclosure, it sounds excellent! I will add some more to the review as I play around with them a bit more! Thanks again, guys, and I hope you have a safe and warm Christmas! Sam

I knew you were the guy with the right info! i guess i can sell them as batteries with a lower float! lol and that 12.1 was with car off then that's to be expected results. I would just stick with what it's intended purpose is... You can use other products for things they were not intended for but will lack the optimal performance outcome.

if i'm not mistaken, i think they quit offering tech support, selling them in usa or somethin.... Too many people were interpreting that as to be used for car audio when the company ahs announced that is not their market. They do\did not want to honor warranties for a product in the wrong application as would many other companies. I know people use them for car audio as an actual car audio batt, batt for batt... I have no experience with them but can say all of our world finalist competitors that live here by me do not run NSB. All we run is the following- XS Power Xstatic Batcaps Deka 9A31s Pick one.. i'm sure you won't be able to afford the 2nd option as many do not who are not on the team.

Do NOT do that!!!!!!!!!!!! Unless this is a POS car that you don't give a shit about and you never plan on removing the enclosure, do not use expanding foam. Use fiberglass.

It will depend on how big the gaps are.. but i'd say two or 3 cans would be enough.. I know my local home depot usually has buy one get one free.Great stuff... is well great stuffyes point and shootMake a beauty panel then foam all around thatAcetone will remove the resiude.. but pretty much anything you don't want foamed either tape it off or use alum foil.If you want it 100% sealed, i haven't seen anything better.Make sure you seal everything ,even the rear speakers (if you have them) most of all WEAR GLOVES!

I actually prefer the w6v2 to the W7 but that is besides the point. I have worked with JL products and their company a lot and they are top notch ion every aspect. Great products, service etc. From what I've seen here on SSA, SSA does just as well but I've worked with less of their products. I did have the pleasure of helping build and install an Xcon and it was by every means a good subwoofer. Deep powerful low end that blended well with the rest of the audio system and had the ability to get damn loud for a single 12" sub. Either way you go, I'd be willing to bet that you'll be a happy guy.

I personally love JL Audio, but I didn't have the heart to not give SSA my money... Lovely bunch , small and close relationships that make it more enjoyable. I can get a JL woofer for the price of a SSA but I'm hoping that I will love the SSA as much as I did JL. My woofers were 8yrs old and they only gave out because I put a stronger amp and didn't adjust SSF properly before bumping it cuz I was sooo excited..lol ... Idiot I am, but I love my Icon so far and I'd say you're golden with either company. Both are solid and well made, I'd give SSA the chance to rival the quality of JL any day..... But I'm just cool like that...

The W7 is not always the best value but is always one of the top performers, surviving a decade filled with subwoofers designed to knock it off its perch. I've never used an Xcon but I'd never turn down a W7 at a price I could afford. Just because a product is mainstream doesn't mean it is any less deserving. Buy the best product that fits your budget.

So, continuing with my review of the X 12's- Got the new box built for them, and have been listening to them for about a day now.... Box is a common chamber @ 3.5 cubes, tuned to 28 hertz with 32 inches of port area... They get quite loud, but I am running them at 1 ohm on my Rubicon for about 2500 RMS to them, and anything can get loud at that power level... I wouldn't recommend putting this much power to them, but I have it setup this way so I can get an accurate judgement on the speakers themselves- and not be limited by a questionable amp- Headroom is your friend when it comes to power. Just don't push them beyond their limits. You should be able to hear when this happens, before they go up in smoke or flames... But don't blame me if you roast your new subs because you tried to run a few thousand watts to them. Onto my initial impressions... These have a distinct advantage over my twins in the "upper bass" department, where the twins struggle to keep up with anything over 50 hertz or so, these subs really shine at those frequencies. The low notes are clean and defined, but not overpowering at all, but these subs still move enough air to rattle my neighbors windows with ease if I turn them up. Music like metal that has quick drumkicks are tight and detailed with little group delay or distortion. Once again, music with light bass lines are very detailed and easy to discern. I will add more in as I get to play with them some more! I am also going to build a low tuned box, at around 15-20 hertz and see what they are capable of for HT use- it seems there is a few people asking about this. Merry Christmas, and I hope everyone has a great New Years! Sam
