Competing with Daily setting?

Recommended Posts

Well im not sure what to choose SPL or Daily on a BTL. I want to find a sub that i can Use for Daily and SPL. Does the SPL setting sound like complete ass on music or is it not to bad? Is the daily still pretty good for competing?

My woofer is great for daily but not good for competing unless i buy another since its dual 6 ohm. and im a single set up guy.

Anyone compete with the daily setting?

Anyone listen to music with the SPL setting?

thanks

Comes down to how picky you are, and how much of a compromise you're willing to live with...using a BTL daily is a pretty heavy compromise to begin with.

Go to the tech section of the forum and look at the BTL specs and it will explain all of the options to you.

In this section it says flat out DO NOT get the SPL option for daily use, only daily. With some of the other options you are looking at a pretty good sub for daily listening that can get obnoxiously loud for competition as well.

I have the daily setting, and I'm tuned to around 34-35hzish. I'm extremely pleased with the way it sounds.

How much power were you planning on putting on the sub for burps, and how much for daily?

Maybe for Jim"sq"J...but I think they sound better than Image Dynamics I used to run.

NOTHING wrong with BTL sq...very respectable, and they get loud as piss too.

edit: MY BTL is daily @ 31hz, and I love the way it sounds. Ask Jim what kinda BTL he has. :P

Honestly the BTL review will be subjective and depend on individual enclosure, tuning, install and options available....

I think ALL subs have SPL capabilities and all have the ability to be used for daily...

i think what they mean by compromise is are you wanting to edge over others within a fraction of a decibel ?

Or are you just going to competitions on occasion and listen to your system more of a daily type scenario...

once these questions are answered i think people could point you in the right direction...

It "CAN" be right for you....

Now that we have established what the majority of your subs will be used for..

We can move on to more detailed questions...

What kind of amp you have delivering that 2500 watts ?

A BTL is first and foremost IMO a SPL sub..... BUT you can add some options to make it work for Daily as well.... A BL is a great Daily sub that can be optioned up to be an SPL sub....

It depends on the install as well....

BL is IMO a better choice for Daily and yeah it can "put up" some numbers in SPL when called upon....

This is not to say you can't go daily with a BTL with the right tuning, enclosure and options it can be a good Daily pounder.

End point

BTL great SPL sub good for daily

BL great Daily sub good for SPL

Ask Jim what kinda BTL he has.

IIRC, they didn't have all the options they do now when I heard the 12". But that doesn't change the fact that a highly overmotored sub like the BTL is not and never will have as flat of a response as some of Fi's other offerings. Nor should it, that's not its design goal. Maybe you like a more peaky substage, and that's why it sounds better to you, I don't know. We all hear things differently.

Maybe I should ask you what systems you've listened to that you'd consider a "reference" to how something is supposed to sound?

I'd be more worried about paying for noise violations than what the sub sounds like.

Orion 2500D ill wire it at .5 ohm so it acutally will see a little bit more than 2500

and i plan on buying some nice components along with the sub. Right now im just running cox's

And it will be put in a very nice box. Properly designed and built

If you just ordered you might be able to get it right-it takes a few days to make and just shows its being shipped. I would be worried, but email scott(ficaraudio) or nick (ndmustang) as soon as possible to try to get things cleared up.

When RE had the MTs...everyone used to b1tch about them blowing so fast and easily.

I think Fi was VERY smart to offer the daily option for the BTL which is similar to the MT...a purpose built SPL sub.

With that said. I'm sure Fi knows their subs. If they say pick the daily option for daily use...pick the daily option.

You could order 1 with the daily option and another one with the SPL option for comps. Just change them out before the comp.

Or just compete with the daily subs. Might not win but comps are more about having fun, learning, and meeting other people.
