intermittent voltage on remote from head unit

Recommended Posts

has anyone had a remote that went on and off, i checked the voltage from the wire that comes directly out of the deck and it goes on and off intermittently. the deck is very old and seen a lot of abuse, my question is can i splice my remote wire with another to achieve the same effect or am i stuck buying a new headunit, i guess i could run a wire from some 12v source and throw a switch in between but that's a hassle.

so a 3 dollar switch or over 200 for new deck?

what I would do is wire up a relay so it would turn on and off when your car is turned on and off.

I use one in my car to turn on fans for my amps, you can get them from parts express.

and you should get this diagram too, is free and it helps alot: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.c...tnumber=500-001

edit. youll need a power, ground, and ignition wires run to the relay, you can just splice into the ones you have runnin to your deck,

sounds good, but try to get a diagram too, makes it easier to figure out the wiring

You can get a SPDT relay at any auto parts store. Here are the terminals apps.

#87....to 12vdc (constant) power source (battery)

#85....To ground

#30....Unit to be powered on (amp remote turn on @ amplifier, fans, ect.)

#86...Trigger, remote turn on nat head unit or toggle switch

#87a.....NOT USED

Hope this helps.

remote turn on is whats causin the problem, and using a switch to turn on a relay is inconvinient,

change #86 to ignition wire.

thanks for all the advice, i decided to use a spst switch that will make it's way into the car cabin eventually. right now it's in the trunk but i think for my use it will be better for me to be able to turn the amp on and off manually. the info on relays is really helpful though, when i checked at my local store the same relays that are on PE for two bucks cost about 15 bucks! :bull:

if that switch is just hooked to + battery make sure you remember to turn it off, i originally did that for my fans, but i never remembered to turn them off
