Most output from the least space.

Recommended Posts

After doing some testing with a few different size subs and enclosures, I've decided that I need to go with a small enclosure. I don't want to go much larger than one cube. The box I have now is 1.21 cubic feet, and I that's about as large as I want to go (preferably smaller, though).

So, I'm needing some suggestions for subs that work well in smaller enclosures but still get loud. Budget (for the sub) will be around $150, give or take. I'll have a custom box built, probably downfiring so I can throw stuff in the back and not worry about punching a hole in the sub. The amp I have does 300 @ 4 and 600 @ 2. This is a daily driver and I listen to just about everything. I've always run sealed and would like to try ported, but I don't know if there are many subs out there that work in small ported boxes (other than the SA-8).

I won't be buying until mid to late July, so I have some time.

the SSA dcon's like small boxes.

That's at the top of my list. That way, if I do decide to go bigger in the future, I can just add another Dcon.

If you want to achieve the most output, why down fire? Buy or make a grill and fire it normally

From what I've read, downfiring can increase the output. Is this wrong?

Go With The Daber 8's And give them a try

Either Way

The SA-8s are at the top of my list for small drivers !

Here's an article talking about firing direction of enclosures, Which way to point your subwoofer box

If I were doing this, since your enclosure is going to be small, I'd get the box made, put it in your car and listen to it and change the direction it points until it sounds the best. If you wanted to try downfiring you could rest the edges of the box between two pieces of wood so the sub has space between it and floor. I could be wrong (so someone correct me I am), but I think it's safe to use the radius of the subwoofer size as the distance between the cone and floor. So for example, 12" would be ~6" away from floor.

Hopefully someone else can chime in on this

Since I've got some time before buying, I was going to experiment with my Shiva and see how well it works. Thanks for the link. Interesting read.

I really wish this sale was going on in July or August, or that I had the funds right now. I'd buy two of these in a heartbeat.

I felt the same way when the sae-1200d v2 were on sale, but it turned out to be good cause I found an awesome deal on a saz1500.

but yeah test out positioning with your shiva and then you at least have a better idea of what you want to do with your new build.
