  1. Got my pieces rabbited. I took video of the process but want to include it with the fiberglass video. Here are some pics though. Check out the trim cover I made for the top of the amp rack. I am really happy the way the shape turned out! Thought this was pretty cool too:
  2. Making more progress on the amp rack! Check out the video to see the latest!
  3. Thanks! Just trying to improve the quality of this forum!
  4. Hello there! If you clicked this thread it is because you are considering making a thread asking about a box design! (Or you are wondering, what's this thread about?) Well I am here today to help you and make your box designing dreams become a reality! Follow these 4 easy steps to correctly pose the question "Is this a good design for a box?" By following these steps other members will be able to better assist you in your goals! STEP 1 (Research): Research! Hop on Google and find your manufactures recommendations for the enclosure. Go up in the search bar of this fine forum and search! You will be surprised to find that someone has probably already asked "How good is sub xxx tuned to 34 hz?" And whats awesome is if you do some snooping you can see if they made a build thread, and then find out how well their plan turned out! You can even PM the person and get their opinions on how it turned out! that's the best part of an online community. STEP 2 (Answer "The List"): Check out this cool list below! These are the type of questions that people are going to ask about your box design goals when you make a thread! So have them ready up front! Copy and paste this list to your new thread and fill in the blanks! If you are not sure on an answer simply put a question mark (" ? ") in that space! That way members will be able to provide the best answers for your questions! (See something I should add? PM Me please!) The list: Vehicle : Location in the vehicle: Space available (Length x Width x Height): Subwoofer make and model: Subwoofer Size: Number of Subwoofers: Type of Port (Kerfed, Slot, Aero, etc.): What type of music do you like?: Is your goal SPL or Everyday Music?: Tuning Freq (Hz): Volume : Questions: STEP 3 (Make a good thread title): Now that you have your list filled out go ahead and make a thread, but I strongly encourage you to put as much info about your design in the thread title. This is a VERY IMPORTANT step! By putting information about the thread you are making in the thread title someone will be able to much more easily search for your thread! And not only that more people are likely to respond to your thread as they will be like: "Oh an Fi BTL, I had one of those, I''m gonna help this dude out!" Here is my recommendation for a format of your thread title: Recommended Thread Title: Design Questions for : (Subwoofer Size) (Subwoofer Manufacturer) (Subwoofer Series) in (Cubic Volume) (@Tuning Freq) Enclosure Here is a sample using the above format: "Design Questions for 12" Fi BTL in 2.5 Cubic Ft @ 34 Hz Enclosure" Trust me, if you take the time to have a good thread title, it will attract much more interest and help! Again, if you don't know the freq you want to use or any other part of the tile just leave it out! For love of all that is holy DO NOT make a thread title "Box help" Thread titles like that are the devil! STEP 4 (Do more research!): As the answers start rolling in keep researching! There are plenty of useful tools out their for designing! Part of the fun of this whole hobby is learning how to do things! Then you can impress your friends and make boxes for others! LEARN LEARN LEARN! These videos are just a sample of what you can find on youtube that may help! I hope you enjoyed this thread! With these steps you are on your way to getting accurate answers to your questions from the members of this forum! And not only that you are bettering the forum by allowing information to be more easily found! Take care and stay loud!
  5. Thanks guys, the intent of this thread is purely to improve our forum, every time I come in this section there are four new threads asking questions about box design, they rarely have all the needed info and are usually titled in a way that is not helpful at all to understanding what the thread is about. I think that if we spread these guidelines this section will become much more clean, and much more useful for all of us!
  6. It;s coming to life! I think its cool how similar to my 3D rendering that it is looking so far! This is just a quick progress update! But I am loving the shape and would love to know what you think!
  7. Well I decided to go a different route on the templates over the amps. I busted out my Engineering skills and modeled this up on the computer. Check out my "3d amp rack" and let me know what you think.
  8. Thanks! Let me know what you think when you have more time to watch! Thank you glad you think so!

Various Installation Tools - An ongoing thread

Exactly! The rivets only work on thin material, the tool actually comes with a little chart that shows what thickness you can use for each particular size.
  11. Hello all! I have been working on a video playlist on youtube where I discuss different car audio tools. Rather than make a different thread for each tool I will be using this thread to constantly update my tool reviews. Week 1: Bojo Installer Trim Removal Tools Week 2: Self Adjusting Wire Strippers
  12. Cont from above. ¼” MDF or Hardboard (Left) and 1/2" MDF (Right): Where to find: Big Box Hardware Stores, Lumber yards Starting Cost: Depends on Size and date, material price changes If you have a particular curve in your material that you cannot merely copy from an object you found you can use the 1/4" thin hardboard or mdf to smoothly cut the shape with your jigsaw, make sure you take the time to sand the surface you cut smooth so that the transition is perfect and has no rises. A favorite among car audio enthusiasts the 1/2" MDF is a MUST for template production, MDF is void free and will allow for perfect surfaces when using various router steps. Body Filler: Where to find: Online, Big Box Hardware Stores, Auto Supply, Auto Body Stores Starting Cost: 15 Also known as “bondo” body filler is a must for making negative plugs throughout the process. I personally recommend “Rage Gold” by Evercoat due to its awesome working period and amazing sanding qualities. Painters tape: Where to find: Online, Big Box Hardware Stores, Art Supply Starting Cost: 3 An easily found item, we will be using the painters tape to protect our panels on steps that require the use of body filler. Misc: Other things you need that don’t need explaining: Scissors, marker, ruler. The Videos! You are going to want to crack open a cold one and start to free your mind! Get those creative juices flowing! Follow the steps outlined in these videos to construct the templates! Episode 1 Episode 2 Episode 3 Episode 4 With the templates made you can utilize them within your builds. Stay tuned for future steps outlining using mold fabric to mount them within a fiberglass surface, wrapping techniques for covering with material, as well as other techniques.
  13. Thanks! Haha thanks man, glad you like it so far.
  14. Alright so I got the amp rack supports complete. This little assembly is strong. And I must say adding the threaded rivets is amazing for mounting the base. To see what I am talking about watch this: Here's some pics:
  15. Some more updates, started making my frame work for my amp rack. Mounting pads: Mocked up Painted with flexstone. Heres my templates I will be using. See the video for how to make them... Base board: In the trunk: With the inserts so you get the idea...

    How-To Stain wood for boxes

Great write up man, just a suggestion, at the top you may want to add a little paragraph about the advantages of staining the wood. By showing people the positives of staining they will be more likely to follow this how to and utilize your advice.
  19. Working on modeling up my amp rack in SolidWorks. Trying to decide if the amps should be angled to one another, or if they should just be parallel to one another.
  20. Finished making my amp cover template! Here are some pics: If you would like to see how I did it watch here:
