I finally got around to building the box for my Havoc 12's. The second one arrived last week, but I just hadn't had time to work on it. Here's a few pics of the box. It 4.3^3 @ 36hz w/ double front and rear baffles.

It sounds very good to me. I haven't heard any SQ or true LSQ setups, so I can't give you a good idea of how it sounds. I'll just say much better than the BTL's. Here's a short horrible clip until I get back and can get a better vid. More info next week. I'm out. [url="http://s175.photobucket.com/albums/w150/kdawg_2005/Havoc/?action=view

Thanks for the compliments. I'll try to get some vids up, but it will be awhile. I can offer you some grainy cell phone video tomorrow. Hopefully it will hold you over until I can get a decent video recorder. I'm leaving for Florida Friday for Spring Break. I'll get some better vids up as soon as I get back.

I have heard of the Mayhem series. It is supposed to become an improved version of the BTL. That is only hearsay, so I can't give any facts.

You might as well get it with every upgrade w/ daily option (unless you will be using it for comps only)

My new Havoc 12 came in today. I don't have a box built yet soI will post listening results tomorrow or Thursday. This sub seems to be built very well. It is very beefy. The packaging wasn't too great, but it arrived safely. The only thing is one spring terminal is sticking. I think that will be easily fixable though. Here are a few pics for your enjoyment.

Hmm...I've been thinking about trading my XD-40 Tactical for one of these. If you've had any experience with the XD, what are the pros and cons b/w these two guns? And what happened with the gun and your arm?
-
Sick! What vehicle is that in?
-
No problems. I'm ordering my 2nd 12" tomorrow. After hearing the 12, I can only imagine how loud a 15 will be. Everday I get in my car, the sub seems to be louder than the day before........... I guess I'll be disappointed when it gets finished breaking in.

I took the LD out of the loop and now everything is fine.

Sound problems
Captain Kev replied to Captain Kev's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
turns out you were right shizzon. The gains on the LD were a tad to high. I do need to add a second battery in the near future when I get another Havoc. Thanks for the help. -
I have a samll problem and maybe someone here knows what is happening. I have a line driver on my amps so here it goes. I turned the gains on the LD up to about 1/2 way. I then proceeded to set the gains on the amps using a DMM and 50hz test tone to volume level 26 on my HU. Everything was good until I played music. It doesn't seem to matter which song I play. When I get to about 22-24 (depends on song) the sub amp cuts off. It's not in protect mode it just turns off entirely. My door/dash speakers warble, then go to producing a clicking noise. If I turn the car off and let it sit for a couple minutes, everything works fine when I turn it back on. Keep in mind that it started doing this after 30mins of high volume play time. Is something getting hot or am I not doing something right?

bamatahoe Great seller and easy to deal with.

It is a Dual 1ohm sub. Scott hooked me up with it. I'm not completely sure what it is. I think I'm going to take it out of the box and free-air it to see if I can pinpoint it.
-
Here's one more low quality.
-
I'm running it at 2ohms on the amp. It does pretty good, but I think I can hear it bottoming out at the clipping limit. I was reading about 55V w/ my DMM when I heard a strange mechanical noise. It wasn't popping so maybe someone here can tell me if that's "bottoming out" or just mech noise. Unfortunately the only camera I have is cell phone so here is a low quailty vid at almost full excursion.

Yep. The 15's have more cone area and should sound a bit better also.
-
My vote goes to the AA Havoc. Excellent response in a sealed enclosure with high output gains when ported. I haven't had a chance to hear a Q, but I am very impressed with the Havoc.
-
Found the low notes. Ported works way better for my listening preferences. It really hits the low notes with authority now. It has the deep rumble that I was looking for. I can't wait to see what it will do when it breaks in. I still have quite a bit of tuning to do as well as cleaning up the install. I have a feeling another Havoc will be coming my way in a month or two. Unfortunately I don't a have local car audio shop with a mic nearby. I will get it metered as soon as possible to see what it will do.

What the hell is pop? Everything down here is called coke or beer....................J/K It's a local store brand. Put it in 1.6 cubes sealed today. I'm building a 2.4 @ 32hz later this evening. I haven't had much experience with 12's or SQ setups, so bear with me. I'm still used to listening to the Solo X and BTLs so don't get your hopes up about an audiophile quality review. On rock the kick drums have a good kick to the chest and it can keep up with the double-kick easily. I love listening to it play System of Down-Hypnotize. I've heard notes in some songs that I never knew existed. It's not boomy, but has a very smooth bottom end. It will also play on up into the 80hz range with no problems if that's what you like. I haven't heard any tinsel slap either. Rap. Not much to say about it. It gets pretty loud. Still alot more punch than I'm used to, but that should mellow out when I go to the ported box. It is lacking a little on the low end, but this is probably because: 1) It hasn't broken in yet. 2) I'm used to 15's and 18's. I will have a head to head sealed vs. ported review tomorrow.

nothing like a beautiful sub sitting on a muddy ATV.

Cerwin Vega Stroker Pro 12 or Fi BTL 15?
Captain Kev replied to Tyelow's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
If the subs were put into their proper respective enclosures with 2500-3000w each, then the BTL should be louder based on cone area. If you can give up about 6 cubes of space for the BTL then go for it. -
So what are the benefits of a line driver? I have a Clarion VRX755VD w/ 2volt preouts. With the gains set at 3/4 of the way up I still have to turn the deck's subwoofer gain setting to +3. If I don't turn the deck gain to +3 then the subs won't "max out", even when I reach full volume on the HU. Would a line driver solve this problem? I just don't feel safe turning the gain on the amp all the way up.

Line Driver
Captain Kev replied to Captain Kev's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Thanks for the advice. My HU only has 2 volt outputs. I ordered the PG TLD66 line driver which is rated for 8 volts.
